Over the counter meds for cough

Any over the counter meds that you ladies might recommend for a cough?  DS isn't running a fever, not really sick but has a cough and I wanted to try something over the counter when it dawned on me that I've never bought anything like that for kids.  Any suggestions?

 (he's almost 20 months old)

Re: Over the counter meds for cough

  • Not really supposed to use cough meds for kids that young. Probably will just have to wait it out :( Have you tried a humidifier?

  • We use a homeopathic formula -- Hyland's Cough Syrup 4 Kids with 100% Natural Honey.  We bought it at HEB.  Definitely try a humidifier, too.
  • What pp said.  Also, it's good to let them cough during the day - get whatever up they can.  You can try a spoonful of honey at night.
  • We used Robitussin and Dimetap (sp) (The pedi reccomended it).  I got the children's and only gave them a half tsp (again the pedi's recommendation).  I only did it at night to keep them from being up at night.

  • Thanks for all of the suggestions!

  • Our pedi also suggests Robitussin for a cough.

This per my pedi as well.  He also said there is one by Triaminic (sp).  You can give cough meds at 20 months.  Just use the proper dosage.  Ask your pedi what that dosage should be.

    This is my strategy too.
