Pregnant after a Loss

Is it better to stick to one type of bottle?

I can't decide what kind of baby bottle to get.. So I am thinking of registering for a few of a few different kinds and seeing what me and baby like the best.

I am going to  bf for the beginning at least, but may switch to formula once I return to work.

  • I think that many do that.  Plan on using one type and get just a few.  If the baby doesn't like it or it doesn't work then you can go from there.

Even if you BF, you will likely want bottles for formula or pumped milk at some point.

  • We use two- I pump into the medela bottles and just feed him EBM from that.  When I feed him formula I use the Dr. Brown's bottles that reduce colic.

I bought several others but ended up returning the rest since he seems happy with these.

  • I always assumed I'd try a few different kinds and see what baby prefered.
  • I think the nipple is the most important part.  We use VentAire wide nipple and Playtex Drop-Ins with the wide nipples.  I just couldn't get into using Dr. Brown's or any of those other types - too many parts for me!  Sophia does great with the two types we use.

If you're going to switch between BF and bottle feeding, wide nipples are best.

  • I'm focusing on one type of bottle (Playtex Drop Ins) but will have a few other kinds just in case the baby hates it. Since I'll have a medela pump, I plan to store some milk in Medela bottles since they can go right on the pump - and I'll also store in the Drop Ins system. There are a couple other almost BPA free bottles (I mentioned in a post earlier the latest info about bottles not being 100% BPA free even though they may say "BPA free") that I will probably have. I just want to make sure that baby will take bottled breastmilk because I will need that provision often, so I'll have a few bottles since certain nipples might be better.

  • I bf my dd, but also started supplementing with formula at 6wks for while we were out and about.  She switched effortlessly between breast and any bottle I gave her.

With ds, I had trouble nursing and had to supplement with formula at only one week.  I was so worried about him never taking to me, that I was at Target doing a desperate last minute search for a bottle that seemed closest as possible to breast (I hadn't even bought bottles beforehand, thinking I wouldn't need them yet).  I ended up going with the Avent bottles, and he did well with them, so I stayed strictly with that.  (In fact, I found it best to only have a few bottles in the cupboard at a time, because it forced me to wash them out immediately, and as I remembered from dd, bottles that sit for a long time are soooo hard to clean.
