Natural Birth

Just got my Hypnobabies course

I am excited to start it, too bad I don't have time until my classes get done for the semester.

People who have tried it, what do you think?

Re: Just got my Hypnobabies course

  • I am thinking about getting it but it seems a little pricey...I've heard good things and I have to do my own research on it but do you basically learn to hypnotize yourself? I didn't really learn any pain relieving techniques last time (other than "listen to your body") so it'd be nice this time around to feel a little more in control.

  • I've just started mine. I'm having trouble staying awake while listening to the cds, so they must be doing a good job of relaxing me, ha ha.

This!  DH and I started listening to the first one together and we were both asleep after 5 minutes.  I was like, WOW we really relaxed.

It's my opinion so far, that all the books I have read (a lot) all really emphasize the necessity of deep relaxation.  Each book has maybe a different perspective, but when you get down to the basics its all the same, relax the muscles in your body and relax your mind, release your muscles, surrender your body, and have a positive perspective on the birthing process so your mind is open to it and you release your fears.  HB just helps you practice relaxing your muscles and your mind everyday and helps you stay in a good mind set.  At least that is what I have gotten so far.  So, to me, it is really useful in that respect.

As far as how pushy they say to go with other people to stick to your birth plan and to keep in a good mindset is a little over the top for me. But, I get their point.

  • We dont' have a class to take in the area so I just do what I can with the book, a CD, and there are also videos you can watch on YouTube that are helpful :)
  • I got my book & cd yesterday and I'm loving it so far. There aren't any classes in my area so we're planning to just learn what we can from the book, online, & from our doula.

  • I am 4 weeks into the 5 week course and I love it!  I feel so much more confident about birth; my fear is virtually gone.  Who knows if I will have a "pain-free" birth, but getting me to relax and feel as empowered as I do now has made the investment completely worth it.

  • I'm very happy with it overall. I bought an older version on ebay (I made sure it had all the right tracks, so it's fine). I'm personally not a big fan of the workbook-but it really isn't important anyhow. I use it to direct me on which tracks I need/what's relevant on them moreso than for labor information.

Anyway, the tracks  are great and I do feel like it is working in terms of getting me to really focus and relax. I am on week 4 of 5 and think it's definitely been worth doing. If nothing else, hypnobirthing (Mongon's book specfically) as well as hypnobabies have given me focus, a way to get rid of stress, and helped me look forward to the birth instead of being anxious. That's really invaluable, because I think it'll make such a difference for my state of mind going  into having my first baby.

  • PS-to PPs, they say it's okay to fall asleep :) I sometimes don't get to do my 30 min session AND the affirmations at bedtime. If I do just the lesson track at bedtime I usually do sleep through part of it as well. I think it is better to do it earlier when you can be more present, but they say it's a common question and it's still good to try even if you end up asleep.

  • I was just going to post something similar tonight, but you beat me to it. :)  Thanks for posting the question.
