s/o birthday party food

I just called the bakery we normally use for cakes about making Jonah's birthday cake, and they're closed next week, starting Thursday. They said I could order a cake for Jonah's party on Saturday, but that I would have to pick it up on Wednesday. They said it would stay fresh if we refrigerated it. How would you feel about getting the cake that far in advance? Do you think I should try another bakery? If so, does anyone have any suggestions of bakeries I could use? I know it's getting kind of late to place an order, especially with Thanksgiving next week.

    I am not sure where you live, but I just got a cake last weekend from North College Hill Bakery.  It was very good and fairly inexpensive.   $29 for a half sheet, which fed 30 people easily.

    I've had pastries from there and I loved them. Do you have any idea if they do personalized designs? We're doing a penguin theme for the party, and I'd like to incorporate it into the cake.

    My DH just left North College Hill and they *might* be able to do what we wanted.  We are looking to do a cake with a bear on it that looks more like a black bear than a teddy bear.

    fyi cakes are actually better if they've been refridgerated for a few days if packaged properly. we had our wedding cake made a few days in advance per the bakers advice ande it came out awesome

    I am no help on a special dsign cake, but the NCH bakery is awesome!  We get all of our cakes there, except this year since I made Griffin's 3D dino cake myself.  They are super nice and the price is very reasonable too!

    Allie's birthday and party are the 27th too!  We're using Tres Belle cakes for her party.  I'll be picking up the cake Saturday morning, before the party.  You could give her a call and see if she can fit you in.
