He did better than I expected with all those fairly unfamiliar people around. He really liked playing with the other 2 kids who were there. I'm glad I set up a play area.
What we learned:
He likes cookies, doesn't like cake as much, but had a ton of fun playing with the icing.
He was completely uninterested in unwrapping presents (which I expected)
Sugar highs and crashes are pretty strong when you haven't had much sugar in your life before!
There are always leftovers even if you plan for less people than you have.
If the kid is crawling around and you put them in the high chair for cake time, try to remember to clean off their hands first before giving them the cake!
Next week we have the Baptism with about half the people coming. Hopefully that will be a little less chaotic!

Interesting you say that about the sugar high, since the first birthday will probably be when our boys get their first refined sugar, and I was wondering about that!

See if you can get a cake with whipped cream icing - that's what they used (I didn't even think to ask but that's what it came with) for our cake that we got from BJs. When I worked in a grocery store bakery (ok, many moons ago), we offered people the choice of whipped or butter cream - the whipped must be kept refrigerated though.
