Babies: 6 - 9 Months

what milestones has your LO hit?

DD is happy & healthy but sometimes I feel like she's behind the curve.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not overly concerned because i know all babies develope differently, but I'm curious what others her age are doing.  I think those damn emails I get telling me baby should/might be doing this are probably the worse culpret.  From what I read, some of the things she might be doing:

  • playing copy cat (she luvs to watch us entertain her w/ faces but does not copy us)
  • baby talking things like bababa (she luvs to make noise but doesn't babble any consinents, mostly just vowel combinations yet)
  • scooting across the floor (she sits well & can push up w/ her arms but the only movement she gets is going backwards from pushing up w/ her arms & it's not intentional)
  • dropping objects to see if I will pick them up (yep she drops them a lot but she doesn't look at me to pick them up)

Tell me we're not alone

Re: what milestones has your LO hit?

  • DD is crawling, sitting, gets into the sitting position, pulling up, standing for a few seconds.

She isn't doing the babba or any of that though.  She makes noises, but nothing recognizable.  I don't know if she's dropping things on purpose, I haven't noticed.  I think she might play a little copy cat, but it's hard to tell.

  • playing copy cat (she loves to watch us entertain her w/ faces but does not copy us) M still doesn't do this and he is 9 months today.

baby talking things like bababa (she loves to make noise but doesn't babble any consinents, mostly just vowel combinations yet)M only started doing this a week or so ago. He is a pretty quiet baby even though we constantly talk to him

scooting across the floor M never scooted across the floor. He sometimes went backwards. He just started crawling a few weeks ago, but he really doesn't care much for it. He'd rather be standing up!

dropping objects to see if I will pick them up (yep she drops them a lot but she doesn't look at me to pick them up) M drops his toys, but then he stares at them and then goes to something else. He doesn't look at me to get them.

Tell me we're not alone You're not alone!! Stick out tongue

  • You aren't alone.  If your pedi is concerned then be concerned.  The baby center emails are (for me) a bit ahead.  They say DS should be 'crusing'/walking now and he's just starting to crawl.  DS likes to drop and bang things but doesn't 'look' at me to get them picked up.  DS didn't start scooting until about a month ago.

  • YOU ARE NOT ALONE... And stop reading those emails!!! I get them and half the time I don't even look at them because I don't want to stress myself out!!!

DD can sit up but she cannot get herself to a sitting position by herself. She does copy, but half the time I think it's just a fluke. And she is no where near crawling! As for the babbling, she only does this in church! LOL! Prefect timing!

P.S. We need a playdate soon!

  • I feel so much better already.  Between email & family/friends, it's hard not to wonder sometimes.

I think I'm going to unsubscribe all my emails & stop listening to people I know. LOL!

I'll send you a FB msg about playdate ;)

  • DS can crawl and pull himself up. I was just talking to DH about some of the stuff you mentioned last night. He says baba and other vowel sounds, but no mama or dada yet.
  • I don't think DS has copied me. He loves to make noises but he mostly just screams. No consonants yet. My DS is the same as yours with the accidentally scooting backwards thing. He looks for things after he drops them (ie: he will throw something off the highchair then lean over to try to find it).

You're not alone. It sounds like our LOs are doing the same developmentally.

  • No worries... I always think back to my niece that didnt crawl till she was 11 1/2 months old and walked 2 weeks after that. She was a very smart little thing and never developmentally delayed... so yup every baby is different.

DS sits well but only "crawls" backward .... he is trying hard to figure out forward motion but no luck... loves to stand at things but of course we have to stand him up. He kinda copies us with somethings but very little and doesnt care about dropping things and us picking them up... he just moves onto something different.. so I think we are at about the same point : )

The way I look at it, is he is happy, healthy and I can tell everyday by watching him that he is learning and trying to figure things out so I think he is developing perfect for him : )

  • DD crawls, sits on her own, gets into a sitting position on her own, claps, and babbles A LOT. She says things like dadada and mamama and dedede but nothing is connected to an object yet. She also pulls up on things and walks holding on to people's hands. She can stand alone for a few seconds.
