Dh's parents want to get us a video camera for Christmas and I was looking into the Flip cameras. They were thinking along the lines of a regular one but I like the smaller compact look of the flip and that it can easily be taken around with me.
Any reviews on it? Also do they use SD cards to store videos or do you have to keep transferring all the videos over to your computer once it's full? Kodak has a simlar one and you just change the SD card once full which seems better if your out and about.
TIA
Re: Flip camera?
We have the Kodak version of the Flip, which as you said, records to SD cards. This was one of the primary reasons we got it - it's a lot easier to throw an extra SD card into the bag than it is to carry around the laptop, especially when travelling or on all-day outings. Also, the Kodak performs a bit better indoors/in low light situations than the Flip HD, which was important to DH since we'll be taking a lot of video of LO indoors, especially at first.
ETA: We spent ~$40 on a 16GB SD card, which will record up to 10 hours in non-HD quality and ~4 hours in HD. We've never filled it up in a single day, but of course, we've never had a LO with us, either, LOL. We'll be getting a few more 16GB SD cards before LO arrives, just to be safe.
This is why we probably won't get a Flip. That, and because I heard the video quality just isn't that great. I'd rather pay a little extra and have higher quality video. I'm leaning towards the Kodak you mentioned but I want to check them all out in the store first! Let us know what you end up with!
