This is the only shot our ultrasound tech got between the legs, and I am paranoid because they weren't spread! They were crossed a lot of the time.
Normally if they're spread you can really tell, but I keep wondering if there was a little penis there, could it have tucked up towards the stomach?
She kept saying "this is the slit" and I think I was so grossed out by thinking about my child's "slit" that I couldn't concentrate!!
We are happy either way, I just don't want to make an expensive discovery later on.
Also, when she pointed to it, I said "is that the cheeseburger?!?!" lol. I am adding to the grossness by insinuating that her hamburger has cheese on it.
Re: This is the "hamburger," right?
I had a hard time making it out, too!! That's why I'm so confused. She said "I'm confident, you can go shopping and paint the nursery" but I still don't see it.
We'll have another ultrasound in a couple weeks. We can double check then, but I'm mostly paranoid because we're telling both sides of our families on Thanksgiving, and both sides want a girl SO badly. My husband and I didn't care (he wanted to go Team Green) so I just worry about disapointing them if this ultrasound wasn't right. And I'm attached to my girl name, now
WOW. That is a really strong statement! We had our u/s and started telling our families. Then we went in for our appt a few days later and the OB was very unsure and just said to wait until our next one in a couple weeks.
Of course, I don't think she looked at the "money shot" yet since we're going back and she thought at 20 wks it'd be much more definite. It's hard thinking it could be wrong - esp. when you're calling her by name and shopping for her already (we did w/DD#1). You get very attached!!! GL!
Yes, exactly. I'd still be so excited for a boy, but as soon as we found out we got so attached to the idea of a little girl.
And almost 70 views on this post with no responses is kind of unsettling
Is it looking bad?
Looks like a girl to me, but I'm not an expert.
With my daughter I asked how sure she was it was a girl. She gave me a look and said "I wouldn't tell you it was a girl if I wasn't sure."
LOL No, I think it's just slow tonight - lots of lurkers, not too many posts. Seriously though, I've never heard of an u/s tech giving a stronger girl confirmation than yours!
Mac and cheese lover!
You're too funny mamabird!!
I agree with the others....looks more like a girl than a boy to ME, but I'm def not an expert. It sounds like the tech was very confident though! Then again, that shot could be missing something b/c it doesn't look super clear? But maybe she saw the definite girliness and it just wasn't captured in this pic....
Aw, IDK...how frustrating! Maybe you could hold off a little longer if you could possibly have a more definite answer sometime soon?
Obviously, no one wants to be wrong here, but it REALLY looks girl to me. You saw my photo yesterday, and although yours is a little more blurry, it looks just like our money shot with the little lines. From what I've seen/heard, boy parts are pretty obvious and your tech sounded REALLY confident, so maybe she saw that area more than once throughout the scan, but this is the only photo she gave you. I wouldn't worry too much- bring on the pink!
I feel the same way. We are finding out but I want to tell the tech, don't tell us unless you are sure! I don't care either way but think that once I am told it is one sex I will get REALLY attached to that idea.
After two losses, third time was a charm.
pm me for blog link
My baby had his legs spread eagle and his pic looks TOTALLY different than yours. So go ahead and tell, but you might want to add something like "We're having a girl! (probably)"
Ok- the pic looks girl to me, but I can see how there would be some ambiguity. Your tech poked around a lot trying to get you that blurry shot and probably saw her "slit" (yup- that gets an EW!) at a few angles, so if she said she's confident it's a girl then I would take that. I'm sure you can also take her word that baby has a head even though you can't see it in that shot because we know that she saw a lot more than just this one snap.
I'm sure you'd feel a lot better if there were three very clear lines, but I think that given the fact that it still looks girl and your tech sounded a lot more confident then the techs of some of the other girls on here with super clear photos I'd say if I was in your shoes that I would be getting attached to the color pink.
Congrats mamma- girls are so much fun!
Since you responded to my "nubs" post I think you know I was kinda in the same boat...but my tech and the overseeing Dr said they won't say anything unless they're very confident. Also, think about it this way - they also saw a lot more than just the still shots they took. Since they know what they're looking for they may have seen a really clear "hamburger" but when they went to grab the image is was a little less clear. Does that make sense?
Trust me, I am with you on the "what if it's a boy, I'm already attached to my girl?" but I am sure that they got it right. There is nothing that resembles a penis there and it's looking all girl to me!
Hopefully everything will be confirmed when you go for your next appt!
Someone's getting a little brother!
At DD's 20 week scan the ONLY good shot we got was her lady bits- everything else was nicely labeled for us but just looked like white on black blobs of varied sizes and shapes. One said "head" so I had to assume the tech knew what she was talking about despite the fact I could see nothing to point to that determination.
Funnily enough, my 2 year old nephew was able to pick out what a few of the shots were- I guess kids just think differently. DD even points at the u/s pictures when she sees them on The Bump like she knows what she's looking at while I squint to tell what everyone has posted.
We didnt get a gender pic. Our U/S tech asked if we wanted to know then said its a girl turned of the machine gave us 4 race profile pics and left the room.
I have nothing to compare with you, since I didnt find out with my other girls we didnt get gender shots to bring home then either.
I know I am attatched to this LO calling her Olivia looking at girl things. Since I have nothing to look at she's going to still be called my little princess.
Okay, okay, I feel much better now!
Thank you, ladies.
Well, I can say that it doesn't look anything like my DS's US pic did. I think boys tend to be more obvious. I know, mistakes happen all the time, but it looks like a little "cheeseburger" (LOL
to me. But, I am definitely no expert. We had an US done at 14 weeks and the tech said she was 95% sure it was boy. I will say that it looked just like DS's US when he was 20 wks, but I am definitely not banking on it. But, having said that, DH and I have both gotten so used to the idea of having two boys that we have to keep reminding ourselves it could be a girl. So, I know what you mean about getting used to the idea of one or the other. I call the baby a he (which I have from the beginning b/c I am used to that, I guess) and have really felt that I would have 2 boys. But we will go back in a couple weeks and check again.
So, to sum it up, while not an expert in the faintest, I would guess girl.
I would feel comfortable saying girl also..
When we had ours Tuesday even when she did a full side profile shot of his body I could actually see his peen from the side. Apparently they stick straight up a good portion of the time... Or he REALLY liked the dr pepper and twix I fed him before the scan. After getting our shot of the goods later on in the scan she was trying to find his feet for me and he had his legs crossed and we could still see he was a boy. So I think your good to go with saying girl
And hamburger/cheeseburger is hysterical!
we had the same problem yesterday morning! she wouldn't open her legs, and we were there for almost an hour - the tech had me get up and go pee, and move around, but still nothing!
Ours looked nearly identical to yours. The tech said... "I am gonna go out on a limb here.. no I am pretty sure... it's a girl" I think we looked aghast, and then she said "I am going to put it in the report, I am 99% sure"....so I have already started buying pink things.... but I am already thinking maybe I will take a blue outfit to the hospital just in case his hot dog was hiding!
