I am flying soon and wasn't on earlier to read what was going on. I know I could google but you guys explain it to me. Please. I usually wear Dylan while I travel so does everyone have to be scanned or patted down? What do they do about babies?
Babies....they probably get felt up too. You never know, onesies could be a great way to hide some C4.
jk
I would think that a baby might get a quick pat-down or a visual check but I really don't think they would put a baby through the scanner. Isn't the scanner the second choice for people who don't want the TSA agent to touch them? If a mom is wearing a baby I would imagine that they would want you to take the child out. If they make you take your shoes off then I would think that they would need you to remove the child.
We just flew between Philly and Tampa which both have the body scanners, but both times we were sent through the family lane which doesn't use them.
With traditional security screening, you won't be able to wear your DS; you would have to put your carrier through the belt screener and carry him through the metal detector. I'm not sure whether or not you'd have to take the carrier off to go through the body scanner, but either way, he'd have to go through it with you.

At Logan only the Business Class line was scanned. It was really no big deal, but there was no "opt out" option. I really didn't even know anything was different from the regular line until the agent told me to put my hands over my head and turn to the side. Otherwise it was just like walking through the metal detector (with a small dose of radiation).
My understanding is that they are not yet in general use so probably not a big deal. You'll probably just walk LO through a traditional metal detector.

Ditto. I've flown with Eva twice and you have to put the carrier on the belt and carry LO through. I would think baby = automatic opt-out on the body scanner?
You can always opt out. There is an option. You simply have to say it. They cannot force you to go through the scanner. You can opt for the pat down. They will just gently pat down the baby (they have a new policy that they will not do the invasive pat down on kids under 12).
I would not let my child go through the scanner. They save boarderline pornographic images. No thank you.
on a side note, I always wear DD in airports. We've flown 6 round trip flights since her birth and I've never been asked to remove her through security. My carrier doesn't have any metal though. TSA guidelines (at least until recently, I don't know if they have changed) do not require removal, although some agents are mistaken on that. You can try to challenge them on that.
I do not know what they will do if you request a pat down. They may make you remove your carrier.

also, some airports, like Orlando, are opting out completely
