Eggnog??

Is it ok to drink Eggnog? I have been very weird about it, because it does contain raw egg, right? or not?

Re: Eggnog??

  • If its pasteurized, its probably ok.  Maybe ask your OB.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • Home made or from the store?  Homemade eggnog could be questionable...and would probably gross me out right now, but I'm pretty sure all the eggnog they sell in cartons at the grocery are pasteurized and safe.

  • I like Egg nog but I haven't gotten any this year because I was unsure about it. It had not even occured to me to check the label to see if it was pasturized! (a "duh" kind of moment! Confused lol)

I had seen on another board where people were talking about the McDonald's Egg Nog shakes, and it got me to wondering even about those!! I'll be checking out the label next time I'm in the grocery store because I LOVE EGG NOG!!!! :)

  • I'm sure it's fine if it's pastuerized but I'd be more concerned about the alcohol!

  • Homemade and store-bought should both be fine, unless the homemade stuff is made with eggs straight out of a hen house (which most people don't have to worry about).  Eggs sold in stores, as well as all raw egg-containing products sold in stores, have been pasteurized, and shouldn't be a risk for salmonella.

  • unless it's homemade, don't worry. The grocery store kinds doesn't have any alcohol or raw ingredients.

  • Gosh I hope so, I've downed a carton in the last week....LO's heartbeat seemed fine at the appt today so I'm going to say it was worth it lol...
  • Silk (soymilk) makes an awesome "egg" nog (which is, incidentally, free of eggs and milk ) and it is delicious!! It is organic and gives you a little extra protein, too!
  • Funny you bring this up - I had a quart in my hand just yesterday and put it back b/c of the sugar content! But closer to Christmas I'm definitely going to fold! Can't wait.

lol. Well I know the store bought kind has no alcohol! No ID required to buy egg nog in a carton!! :)

LOL, I don't drink egg nog so I wasn't sure! I just figured it all had rum or whatever people drink it with!

  • Like everyone else has said, store bought eggnog is pasterized and good to go! I have been resisting buying as of yet b/c I have no control over my eggnog consumption and therefore try to limit when I can buy it until Thanksgiving. I do, however, have eggnog ice cream in my freezer. =)
