Early this morning a dear friend of mine went into the hospital to be induced. After 11 hrs she is no more dialated, efaced or even progressing at all. While I was there (I am a huge support system for her since I am her only friend that has had children) the nurse was trying to coerse her into having a c-section. I immediately told her that "she has only been "trying" for 11 hrs and that other methods haven't even been offered to her such as nipple stimulation, the bulb, or even breaking her water bag. So, before offering this to her why don't you ask her doctor if it is okay if she can eat then try the Pit again which gave her more productive contractions, give her a bit of stadol to help her sleep and then try and break her water before telling her how exhausted she is and offering her a c-section? Her birthplan clearly states that she wishes to try for a minimum of 24 hrs with multiple sources exhausted before a c-section is even to be discussed."
Needless to say the nurse looked at me quite dumbfoundedly and stopped out of the room. My friend was very grateful and started crying since she wasn't able to say it for herself. She knows how often the hospitals where we live give c-sections simply because "the patient gave up" and that I am not even given a choice with this pregnancy. So, I guess I feel really good about helping someone out even if it isnt me.
Thanks for listening to my little rant
Re: Happy to help
if she doesn't let them break her water, she can always leave (assuming they are inducing for something like being past her EDD and not something medical).
Walking is a good labor inducer too...
She could even have them turn everything off, rest overnight and start again tomorrow.
Good luck to her!
