I haven't posted on this board yet so Hi Ladies
I am due in March and hoping for a VBAC. I had my DS1 with the help of pitocin only. The short story: I woke up to a lot of blood at 38 weeks. I went to the hospital scared out of my mind. I was 2cm when I got there, they monitered me and baby for 2 hours and were getting ready to send me home but when they checked again I was 4cm. Apparently I was having contractions I couldn't feel but they were doing their job! They broke my water at 9am and nothing happened. So at noon I got pitocin and at 3:30 my son was born.
With DS2 totally different story. Contraction late one night. Went to get checked at L/D. Was checked and monitered and everything looked ok. then he flipped! so now he is breech, I was at my due date so Doc said we were doing a c/s. I was in shock! I had never had any kind of surgery and the thought of a giant needle in my spine (epidual) scared the crap out of me! Lets just say that the c/s was almost the scariest thing I have ever been through. The recovery was terrible for me. I could't do anything by my self, I moved in with my grandmother so she could help me with my 2 yr old and newborn. Just a side note my son was born with a craniofacial anomalie. He has Treacher Collins Syndrome and my doc told me that lots of children with these are breech bc our bodies know that their skull is shapped oddly.
I don't want to go through that again. I haven't talked to the doctor much about it yet but next appt I will be. He has only said it depends how I go in to labor this time. I am not sure what I think of that. He didn't seem against it but he didn't seem too for it either. Anyone have a similar story?
Re: 1 vaginal, 1 c/s, hopeful VBAC
Can you get in touch with your local ICAN group? Typically from what I've seen, if a doc isn't recommending VBAC, they aren't supportive and something will come up that will require a c/s in their mind. I'm actually switching midwife groups next week (at 25w) from one that "allows" VBACs to one that is truly supportive. Best of luck!
Totally agree. Since you've already had a vaginal delivery, your odds of successful VBAC are higher than someone who hasn't, and your odds of uterine rupture are lower. Furthermore, moms who had a c/s for breech position have the highest VBAC rates. So it sounds you would be an excellent candidate for VBAC, assuming you don't have any other medical issues that would point to a c/s.
I would try to find a doctor or midwife who actually believes in VBAC, because it sounds like your doctor doesn't.
GL!
I wish you all the best. Definately a good idea to find someone who is supportive of your vbac attempt.
I didn't know that if you have already had a vaginal birth than the chances of you having a successful vbac goes up. I have had 3 vaginal births and 1 c/s. More to talk about tomorrow with my doc.
Ditto - you sound like an ideal candidate (from what you've said). You had the c/s for a situation that is unlikely to repeat itself, you've already had a vaginal birth. I'd look for a known VBAC friendly doctor and get their opinion.
Exactly this. My local ICAN message board is probably the #1 reason I ended up getting my VBAC. They recommended me to a very VBAC supportive OB and I'm so glad I found that board. Good luck to you!
