Black Fri Strategies...

Is anyone braving the Black Friday crowds?  Do you have a shopping list or strategy?

I need to buy a camera (for myself, for christmas) and a GPS (for my mom for christmas) but I'm thinking of skipping the black fri crowds and just ordering online for ~$10-20 more to save myself the aggravation.

Re: Black Fri Strategies...

  • My strategy is cyber monday!  HAHA!  I might hit black friday IF I find a good deal on something we still need for LO.

  • I am sending DH out. I don't feel like dealing with the crowds and we don't really need much.
  • We always go out.  The people watching is awesome.

We have a general pattern that we follow.  Walmart, Target, JoAnn, Old Navy, Kohl's, BBB, Big Lots.  And then my family usually does breakfast.  After that, DH usually has to go to work so I will either tag along with my parents or go home to rest.

That said, if you have very specific things you want and don't enjoy going out for the fun of it, I'd probably skip it.

  • DH and I will probably go out. There are some good deals on stuff at Target and probably at the Exchange here on base. We'll see if we go anywhere else. I actually kinda like Black Friday shopping, now that I am no longer working retail myself.

  • I go every year and am not planning on skipping it this year.  My 3 sisters and I go, sometimes my mom too - we make a list of what everyone wants from where, and then hit the stores we need to go to in the order that they open - our theory is if you have to spend more then 10 mins in the store before getting in line, you might end up waiting in line too long to make the next store, and if you have to stand there and think about it then you don't need it.  We usually have a blast.  This year I am looking for a camera for dh, and maybe just some stuff for the house, but have finished the rest of my Christmas shopping.

  • Cyber Monday, baby :)  I'll be parked on my couch in my PJ's with a nice cup of hot chocolate!
  • We're going black friday shopping in NH while we're there to take advantage of the sales and the sales tax-free-ness.

I want a DSLR and DH wants surround sound.  We also need to get presents for his side of the family and a few of my friends.

  • I have never gone out for Black Friday (I can't stand the crowds) but I am a huge Cyber Monday fan!

This for me as well.  I hate regular shopping, and I could not imagine shopping on Black Friday!

  • I'll be out there!  We leave at 10 PM on thanksgiving and hit the stores that open at midnight then make a day of it and go home about 7 or 8 PM on friday, I warned my sister in law she might be pushing me in a wheel chair this year, but I'll be there.
  • We've done it the last 2 years, but may skip this year, unless something I just can't live without shows up in a black Friday ad (like, maybe a new camera, or accessories for my dSLR).  I'll probably hit BRU that day as well, since they've got some gliders 1/2 off that day, but I won't be there at opening since our BRU is a stand-alone store & I imagine won't be anywhere near as crowded as the TRU/BRU combo stores.

  • my black friday strategy will be the same as it is every year. stay home and avoid.
  • I have started doing Black Friday the past couple of years. Wine necessary with lunch afterwards. However, my feet hurt 24/7 and I don't need anything specific this year, so I'm going to skip it and go to a movie with my mom instead. :)
  • I'm the worst bargain shopper ever - and don't really get the Black Friday thing...does it really make that much difference??
  • DH was going to go out Friday while we're in Dallas to find us an HDTV but you girls just reminded me of Cyber Monday and we'll go through Wal Mart since they have free shipping. Thank you, ladies, for making his day.
  • We usually go out on Black Friday, but I haven't decided yet and probably won't until we get the ads. We don't have a lot of big stores around us - just Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Sears, BonTon, JCPenny, Staples, and Home Depot. If there's anything we want or Christmas gifts we want to get, we'll go & try to get them.

Last year we stopped at K-Mart on Thanksgiving day & DH got some awesome deals on Craftsman tools just like the ones at Sears. Plus, it wasn't crowded at all which was awesome. So we might do that if there's anything we want.

  • I'll be at work so I don't have to worry about that.  I'll probably hit up Cyber monday as well!
