I did my glucose test this morning and about 40 minutes after drinking the drink I got really hot, broke out in a cold sweat and got very light headed and dizzy. It was pretty scary. I ended up passing the test but only by 1 point. Anyone else have a bad reaction to the test?
Re: Bad reaction to glucose test
The nurse just said it could be my body coming off of all the sugar. I thought that was wierd because I have never heard of anyone else having that reaction to sugar. I figure 50 grams is about 2 or 3 sodas so its not THAT much. Thats nice that you get to do yours at home though! I had to drink it there and just sit in the waiting room for an hour. I also didnt have a flavor choice, they just gave me the clear one. Yuck!
My reaction wasn't as bad as yours, but what the nurse said makes sense. My body has never reacted well to sugar which is why I avoid sodas and juice. I felt a little dizzy and sick to my stomach after drinking mine but the dr said it was perfectly normal. I didn't get a choice either, they just gave me whatever was in their little fridge. It wasn't that bad, I just downed it in less than a minute to get it over with.
The EXACT same thing happened to me this morning at my test!! I had to lie down in the ECG room for an hour!!! I wonder if this is an indicator of GD.... it was really freaky!

This. My nurse at the 3 hour said that I had to stay in the hospital while they did the test incase of shakiness, nausea, etc. They said it happens to a lot of people.

That happened to me, too, when I took the 1-hour test Monday. I was in an exam room and just paced around until I felt slightly better. I also got very very nauseous (and this all hit about 30 mins into the test - drinking the Glucola didn't bother me at all.)
I haven't heard back on my results yet, though.

I just did mine yesterday (waiting for the results today!) and it made me really wired, then I crashed hard and then I had a headache.
I'm really hoping not to have to do the 3 hour test....
I had a very similar reaction with my first DS to the point that I even threw up and had to retake the test a couple days later. The second try I was told to sip it over 15 mins and then they had me lay down in the room where they would be drawing blood and start the hour. I passed with flying colors. I am hypoglycemic. I don't think they even gave me the test with DS2 or if they did I didn't have any reaction that made it memorable. I hope this time will be painless cause I would not want to go through that experience again.
GL for awesome test results
