Trouble TTC

First appointment with RE is Monday!

I know there will probably be a ton of history and talking and possibly an ultrasound.  Do you ladies have any advice about anything regarding this appointment?  Was there anything that you had wished you would have asked??

  • I have not been to my appointment yet (Nov 30) but I know how excited I am so just wanted to wish you luck!

  • At my first appt, my RE gave me SO much information. It was a lot and I didn't really have any questions at that point. If you haven't had any testing done yet, expect to have tons of b/w ordered, SA for DH, and an HSG. It will also be hard for RE to go too much into specifics if you don't have test results yet. Our 2nd appointment, where RE went over test results and we decided on treatment, was more when I asked questions. The first appt. is also good for just getting a feel for the dr., whether you like his/her manner, etc. Good luck!

After 2 1/2 years TTC, 3 IUI's, endo, and a lap, a surprise BFP brought us Alexandra Marie!

  • I had my first RE appt on Monday. I had previously went in and had an ultrasound and I had bloodwork done that night. So basically the appointment was just a consultation. I didn't really have any questions, but I am sure I will once I find out how my blood work comes back. It feels so good to finally have a plan. It takes a ton of pressure off. Just don't stress out about it and write down any questions you may have so you don't forget them. Good Luck!

  • Thank you ladies so so much!!!  :)  The writing the questions down sounds like a great idea!! I haven't had any bloodwork (except a thyroid test).  I am nervous and excited at the same time!!!

Good luck to those going after me too!!!

  • Our first appointment was just an overview.  The doctor explained to us how long it generally takes "normal" people to get pregnant.  She also calmed our fears and told us that medicine has come a long way and infertility doesn't mean you will never get pregnant.  I did an u/s that first visit and than came in later for blood work. DH went in later as well for his semen analysis.  About a week after the results came in we went back to the doctor and she went over everything with us.

  • My first RE appointment was awesome. I'm totally serious! :-) She answered every question I could come up with and explained everything from ovulation to IVF.  It was fascinating!  I walked out of there after doing some bloodwork, and we scheduled an ultrasound, an HSG and also a SA for MH.

Don't get me wrong, it was overwhelming, but it felt so good to finally know what was going on w/my body and that we had a plan in place.

    Good luck ladies.
