  • As in Nylabones? I realize its a semi-legitimate name, but unless its culturally appropriate for you, neither is a good choice. By default, I chose Nyla, since it's the most correct spelling.
  • Nyla for sure! The h is totally unnecessary. I also like Nahla.
  • No H.

  • Nyla. This is DH's gma's name, but she spells it Nila which reminds me of Nilla Wafers.

  • Unfortunately, I would have to say neither.

Nyla is a name invented by Britney Spears for her short-lived restaurant, combining the abbreviations for New York (NY) and Louisiana (LA).

    However, I can recommend:

    NILA

    Gender: Feminine

    Usage: Indian

    Other Scripts: ???? (Hindi)

    Means "dark blue" in Sanskrit.

    WTH!?!?!

Yes, OP - please ditch the invented form and go with a legit name. If not, Brittany Spears may come to claim rights. Stick out tongue

I Googled, and one dumb site said it meant, 'champion'. Um no, that's Neila/Neala, and it's Irish.

Um, it actually is a "real name" although aren't all names made up at some point or other? Anyhoo...

The girl's name Nyla (y)-la is pronounced NYE-lah. It is of English origin. Feminine form of Nyles, from Neil.

Nyla has 2 variant forms: Nila and Nylah.

    Origin: Gaelic

    Meaning: Cloud or Champion

I was unaware of the Britney Spears restaurant thing, but if I didn't know about it, I highly doubt that will be the first thing on most people's minds when they hear it, and even if it is, I couldn't care less... me and hubby both like the name.

Thanks to all of you ladies for your input!
