So, if I was induced, had IV painkillers and an epi, I obviously had an unnatural birth. Does that mean my kid is also unnatural because I fed him formula?

Did you see the woman who said she'd get offended if someone called her "natural" twins spontaneous? Because it's offensive to use the medical terminology and she'd NEVER want to be associated with the fake babies created by ART.

Seriously, though, I know I didn't have a 'natural' birth. There's nothing natural about a c-section and I'm cool with that. I've never been offended by the term natural birth until a 'friend' of mine told me that her child was more natural than mine because her natural birth was better than my c-section. My child is 100% natural and so is every other child that comes into this world.

All my kids are fake then. Eldest was a c-section baby, breastfed 6 months then formula fed. Middle was an induced labor with epi VBAC baby, breastfed 10 months then formula fed. Baby was "natural" labor with epi VBAC baby, breastfed 3 months then prescription formula fed (not even milk based formula, amino acid formula).

If I'd have tried for a "natural" birth, baby and I both would have died. My body just isn't made for letting a baby pass (although we did not know this until my first e-c/s). c/s #2 is the current plan.

See, I don't care whatsoever how anyone wants to define or undefine their births. Period. I WISH people were generally more aware of their bodies and docs weren't so induction and cut-happy, but that's neither here nor there.

What I DO care about? An entire group of people (or several groups, actually) who've continually battled to get terminology changed (using spontaneous instead of natural for multiples, or using "biological" child instead of "real child" for adoptees, etc) so as to be less offensive, and then five or six douchebags think it's hilarious to mock those terms. Way to be welcoming and open, you imbeciles.

I was induced twice, given an epi right away on the second go 'round, later given an emergency c-section which I was put under for - for all I know my kid was beamed down by Scotty from the USS Enterprise. I BF'ed and now formula feed my child. I don't care if any of it is/was natural or unnatural I'm just grateful he is here.

But, my comment had nothing to do with natural BIRTH-- the OP made a comment calling a set of triplets "natural" and I informed her that the less offensive and more widely accepted term to use (so as not to offend those that are IF/use ART to conceive their kids) is "spontaneous".

That fact is not up for debate. The medical term is SPONTANEOUS and yet suddenly I'm rude for pointing it out and it's a 3-page debate on natural birth and people telling IFers to be less sensitive!! WTF.

I understand and completely agree.

I want to clarify in case it wasn't clear. As someone who had an unnatural birth the term natural birth didn't bother me until I realized that some people actually think their baby is somehow superior to mine because of the way he left my body. I understand people have opinions on birth and that's fine until it becomes a judgement on me and my child.

I've never dealt with IF but I am now dealing with my special needs preschooler and I find things offensive that I would have never thought about before. I realize sometime people are unintentionally insensitive and sometimes people are just asssholes.

Yes, you are correct, but maybe you should let the post go. There are always going to be people in this world who just can not see both sides of a valid argument. You were not rude you simply tried to share knowledge. I guarantee your comment will still educate people which was your purpose to begin with.

I agree and I think you handled it correctly. As I said in the other thread, if I said something offensive unintentionally I would hope someone would point it out just as you did to the OP over there. The reaction and resulting posts over there were insane.
