I have had problems with low supply since DS was 5 weeks old. Since then, I have been on Fenugreek, Milk Thistle, and Reglan. My prescription for Reglan ran out last week and I went back down to pumping only 1 oz (I had been pumping 3-4 oz.). I will start Dom tonight, hopefully it helps.
Anyways, to get to the point....I went in and had my thyroid tested last Thursday. Well I got a phone call on Monday evening from the nurse, she said my results were abnormal and they needed the doctor to review them. It is now Wednesday (Dr. has Wednesday's off) and I still haven't heard anything about my test results. I know hypothyroidism can cause you to have low supply, so I just want to know if that is what is wrong.
Ladies with thyroid problems, what are you doing to fix it, just a medication? Has it helped your milk supply? How quickly did you see results if it did?
TIA
Re: Possible answer to my low supply problems?
I struggled with low supply and was dx with hypothyroidism. I saw an increase after starting meds. It was not enough to get me off formula, but it was several months before I was dx.?
I think you have every reason to be optimistic, particularly since you ?were once pumping more and are starting dom.?
Do get your levels checked regularly because they can bounce around postpartum ?and it sometimes takes a bit of tinkering to get the correct dose.?
I have seriously low supply due to my thyroid. I am on medication to regulate it but it isn't enough and my dr says thyroid can't affect that so he won't up my medication. I do mother's milk tea, lactation boosting oatmeal cookies, a lactate support supplement, seasame sticks, etc. I am going to ask my OB about reglan at our appt. next week. It is really hard! But remember that even if you can only give LO a couple ounces a day it is better than nothing at all, That's what I keep telling myself.
