Sleep help!

Hi ladies, i mostly lurk here. I'm looking for non-CIO sleep advice, and thought this would be the best place to ask. My 6.5 month old is dealing us fits with sleep. She is up about every two hours -- sometimes every hour.?

I BF(w a few ounces of formula per day because of supply issues) ?and I'm not looking for an 8-hour stretch of sleep, but maybe two three hour stretches at night would let me function as a human being and maybe keep my job.

We've tried a sleep sack, solids at her 8 p.m. feeding, a bed time routine.

Last night out of desperation, I let her sleep in her Little Lamb Swing ?instead of her crib -- and she gave me one three hour stretch and one two hour stretch .(I sleep on a daybed in the nursery) Progress, but I can't let her sleep in her swing every night.

If you had a difficult sleeper, what helped you most? Bedsharing probably isn't appropriate for us. Fluffy mattress, cat hair and heavy sleeping husband in the master bedroom -- That's why I'm sleeping in the nursery. ?

Re: Sleep help!

  • Hi! I'm a lurker, too. DD was the same way for awhile. She slept in a co-sleeper until I had enough of the sleep deprivation. I finally just pushed my bed against the wall, kicked the cat out of the room and put her in bed with me.

I know you want to hear a better solution but it did work like a charm. She goes 3-5 hour stretches now, at 6 months. I hope you find something that works for you.

  • What about a noise maker?  When my DD wakes up in the middle of the night and it is not time for her to eat, I just hit the 'rain' button on the Sleep Sheep and she goes back to sleep in a minute or two.  Maybe something like this?
  • Have you tried playing around with bedtime?  You say 8pm feeding which leads me to believe your LO is still awake at that time.  Perhaps an earlier bedtime might help.  Every baby is different, of course, but that seems a bit on the late side.

  • Thank you everybody. We have the sleep sheep. Sadly, it is often still on when she wakes up. I still don't think bed sharing is for us, but I might try a co-sleeper attachment.

We get home from daycare at about 6 p.m We usually play until it's time to eat. We might try eating at around 7 and see if that helps. Thanks again.

  • are you feeding her when she wakes? it sounds too simple to be true, but honestly, once i stopped offering the breast in the middle of the night, she stopped wanting to be fed. the first couple nights, i went in and retucked her, patted her, shushed her a little bit, and she fell back asleep after a few minutes. she fussed a bit but no real crying, no hunger signs. pretty soon she just stopped waking at all. try it for a couple nights maybe, it can`t hurt--if she`s clearly hungry, obviously feed her :)
