Daycare in Ellicott City/Columbia

Hi,

I'm a new mom-to-be, and just started my daycare research as I heard there is often a waiting list.  I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for a good day care program in Ellicott City or nearby?  My husband and I both work, so we would need a day care with extended hours, from 8am to 6pm.  Also, has anyone enrolled their baby into the infant program at Children's Manor Montessori School in Columbia?  I heard great things about the Montessori schools, but not sure about this one in particular.  Thank you!

  • My DD goes to Columbia Academy @ Kings Contrivance.  I also looked at Childtime adn liked it.  I have heard good things about "The Young School" too.

I don't know/haven't heard of Children's Manor Montessouri.  I'm not sure that they do any "Montessori" specific things for newborns/babies.  I don't think the Montessori program starts until 3+ or so, but I'm not sure.

  • DS goes to La Petite right off of 100 in Columbia. I really like the teachers, they all know him by name (even if he is not in their class) and he brings home art projects to me on a weekly basis (finger painting and drawings) Now that he's used to being back in daycare, he's happy and I think he enjoys his time there. Everyone is really friendly.

Also, their doors are locked all day and you have to use a passcode to enter the building.

They're open, I believe, from 6:30 to 6:30 M through F. The have a pay online option, which is pretty convenient.

  • I visited over 10 facilities around Columbia/Laurel and a lot of them, such as the Young School in Kings Contrivance and the Columbia Academy in Maple Lawn, were already full for babies born between September and December 2010. (I contacted them in early September).

My favorites were Knowledge Beginnings in Laurel and the Columbia Academy in Kings Contrivance. I also loved the Nurturing Nest Montessori School, but their hours would not work for us. My husband and I work full-time and I am planning to put our son in daycare in late March/April, so I was told to contact the daycare facilities again sometime in February.

  • Thanks so much for all the recommendations!  I'm not due until May of 2011, but started calling up places because people warned me about waitlists, and half of them are full for Aug 2011 enrollment already!

I will definitely visit all those places and see what's available!
