VBAC

3+ CS

SSWJSSWJ member
I had my first 2 very close together and did not feel comfortable attempting a VBAC when I had only had 8 months between pregnancies.  Now we are pregnant with #3 and I have about 2 years between pregnancies.  I am definitely leaning towards a CS.  I found that recovery was so tough after labor and a cs rather than just the cs the second time around.  However I don't want to risk not being able to have more kids.  Have any of you talked to your doctor about the risks of doing a VBAC after 2 CS.  Do you know the success rates?  Anyone have more than 3 CS?

Re: 3+ CS

  • How many did the Duggers have?  I think I heard someone say she had 3 or 4 C-sections and has continued to have babies.

  • I haven't personally done the research, but since it's been 2 years between pregnancies I would say try for a VBAC. But it's a personal decision. You may find more resistance from docs, but you also find that for VBAC after 1CS.
The Knot won't share my Bump Siggy, so here's the low-down: 4/27/07 - Got engaged! 8/31/08 - Got married (to my best friend)! 12/30/08 - Got Pregnant! 9/3/09 - Welcome to the world, Elias Solomon! 8/16/10 - Got Pregnant, again! 5/14/11 - Welcome to the world, Talia Hadassah! 1/14/12 - Ready or not, here comes #3 (EDD 9/27/12)
  • My Dr's are open to a VBA2C b/c of the new guidelines. They have a great VBAC rate and participate at basically the only hospital that allows VBACs in my state.

I had such a traumatic scheduled c/s (g/a and awake for cutting) that at this point, I really just want a calm birth. A VBA2C would be my ideal but I know that it may not happen.

I've also hired a doula to be there to support me for the VBA2C so that my chances of being successful are the highest.

  • I had a bad outcome when I attempted my VBAC- the resident tangled the cord around baby's neck twice because she wanted to "hurry up" and get him out and make him not sunnyside up anymore... at this time, the attending stepped out for an emergency down the hall- then I had an emergency... baby had fetal decels that wouldn't let up, HB as low at 34.  They couldn't do vaccum or forceps 'cuz teh attending wasn't back yet, so the anesthesiologist gave me the gas mask and I was out... 4 hours later, I had a baby in NICU... he had a stroke in utero becuase the idiot resident choked him to death and cut off oxygen supply.  For 2 years I had to take him to test after test, PT/OT, etc. He finally "graduated" and got the green light as a "normal" kid.  I thank my lucky stars, he could've ended up with cerebral palsy or dead.  His brain managed to heal the damage they caused.

Because of this I didn't seriuoslly consider a VBAC2C for this PG.  Briefly I thought about it, but in my neck of the woods, even the University Hospital (nationally ranked) will NOT do a VBAC2C.

But then again, the Duggar's do it all the time!!!!!

Wow, this is a scary story!  Though the incident doesn't sound VBAC related- just some moron resident related who shouldn't have been left in charge.  So glad your son is ok.

I think she had 4 (both sets of twins and the last 2 babies, so she has also had a lot of VBACs)

The risk of u/r goes up with 2 c/s, but not too much .07% to .09%.  I have 5 friends who have had VBA2C with no complications at all.  It is riskier though so I think you have to weigh the risks and the benefits out.
