Cloth Diapering

Why should I CD?

Tell me some reasons why I should CD and why it is better than disposables and why you love it :) I have to have some proof to tell my husband why we should consider switching from disposables to cloth!

Re: Why should I CD?

  • First of all, congrats on that sweet tiny baby! oh my she was small! Here are the reasons we cloth diaper: 1. Money savings 2. Better for our baby (none of the awful chemicals that are in disposables, you should research the stuff they put into them) 3. Better for the environment 4. They are adorable! HTH!

Thank you!! :) Yes that helps. I'm going to have to do some calculations and figure out the money savings. And I have heard a little about what is in disposable diapers but I'm going to have to do some more research!

  • also, once you feel the cloth diapers you will wonder why you would put the plasticy ones on your sweet little baby, They are so soft and squishy!

  • For my DH, it was all about the money. There are so many options to fit into your budget. Plus, once you build up your stash and take care of your CDs, you can use them not only for the first LO, but #2 and beyond.

haha yay!!! I'm always looking for and excuse to spend $$ LOL

  • For my DH it was also all about the money..and the thought that we could potty train earlier (also money related in his eyes).  Not only are your upfront costs lower, but you can re-sell the dipes which you can't do with sposies.

Also some people always tell me the cost isn't that much better because of laundry, but in talking with other moms of LOs around the same age, I actually do less laundry than they do because I never every have leaks/blowouts etc like they do with sposies.

  • less explosive poo leaks all over clothes (we've maybe had 2-3 poop leaks while wearing cloth, when we were using disposables it was more like 1-2 leaks a day.....which always seemed to happen when i was holding DS so I was constantly covered in poo)

  • We cloth diaper because I feel it's the responsible thing to do.  I want my children to have healthy environment to raise their families in.  Disposables contribute to so much in the landfills and it makes me sick to think how long 'sposies take to decompose.  I like knowing what is going on my LO's bum- no chemicals, just soft cloth.  The money we save is an added bonus.  We also like that we don't have to rush to the store because we're running out of diapers- I simply throw a load of laundry in and we have diapers.  And the cuteness of the diapers can't be beat either!
  • Cost savings: You can buy used or seconds, you don't throw them away after each use, you can sell ones your LO outgrows, etc.

Cuteness: When was the last time you saw a cute disposable diaper?

For many people, there are fewer diaper rashes

You can potentially potty train sooner

No need to take out a trash bag full of diapers to go sit in a landfill for decades

Something new and different to try, which is actually something most people have used over history to diaper their kids

The options now are way better than a generation or 2 ago

  • I drove with LO to a Target an hour away from my home. I picked him out of his carseat to find poop up to his neck. It was a disaster. That is when I decided to switch.

I have had very few pee leaks with cloth and absolutely no poop leaks. It is heavenly.

In the end, it all came down to:

I don't use disposable plates, silverware, etc. ..so why not use reusable cloth?

  • For us it is 90% about the money.  Also for DH it is just the same as sposies because I do the laundry and we use pockets.
