Opening cervix? help!! (TMI)
I just left the doctor for my 29 wk appt. I told him about the stringy discharge that i've had for the past week. Its yellow/white/clear in color with no smell. So he decided to do a vaginal exam and found out that my outer cervix is open almost all the way and my inner cervix is trying to open. He sent me to the hospital (Mother/Baby) to get a steroid shot to help progress the development of her lungs, I get another one tomorrow. If its opened any farther come my next appt in 2wks, ill be permanently admitted in mother/baby till i have her. He isn't going to do anything to stop labor (really don't want him to, my body has a tendency to try to get rid of foreign objects, so if he tries to stop labor it could be very dangerous to me and LO). Should I be scared?? I figured LO was going to come early but I didn't think THIS early!!

This is my 3 pregnancy, the other 2 ended in miscarriage at about
13-19wks. Reasons: My body tends to react toward pregnancy much in the
same way that it does an infection, it tries to fight it.

While I don't know what "my body has a tendency to try to get rid of foreign objects" means or has to do with pregnancy. I wouldn't call a pregnancy a foreign object in my body. That's very odd to me, but having said that...
Wow, that's very alarming! I would be very nervous...I'm sort of shocked that they aren't going to do anything to stop labor at 29 weeks!!!!!
I think what she means by inner and outer cervix is that the outer part is what the Dr can feel...the inner is what they check with a vaginal u/s and it's when the baby pushes down and causes funneling.
I also find it a little odd that your Dr wouldn't stop labor at 29 weeks.....the baby isn't a foreign object and contractions would be causing your cervix to open so all they would have to do it stop the contractions
I understand what she means about the body treating the pregnancy like a foreign object - this happened to a good friend of mine as well - her body didn't recognize the fetus and kept sending white blood cells to attack the developing baby. She ended up with 2 m/c (one at 22 weeks, one at 25 weeks).
That being said, I don't understand why your doctor wouldn't try to do whatever he could to stop your labor from progressing, or, if this was too risky, why he wouldn't just deliver you. It's good you're getting the betamethazone shots, as that will help your baby, but if you're dilating and he's not doing anything to stop it, your baby will most likely be coming out soon. There are a lot of us on here taking meds to stop our bodies from contracting and causing our cervixes to dilate. I'd say talk to your doctor some more, or get a 2nd opinion. Good luck.
Are you RH- and never had the shot? Have you had previous children?
My family does know a lady whose body was allergic to the y chromosomes of males, and it miscarried anytime she was carrying a boy. She had 8 girls, but had been pregnant something like 20 times.
Anyway, I would be extremely alarmed to the point of changing doctors if my doctor did not want to stop labor at 29 weeks, or 31w at your next appointment. There is so much lung development that goes on yet, and isn't there a difference between the lungs developing and the lungs maturing? I thought the shot matured the lungs, but didn't develop them further. Either way, I'd be getting a second opinion if I were you.
