Pregnancy pains?

I'm assuming that what I've been feeling is the ligaments stretching, but it still freaking me out. I keep having these somewhat sharp pains right where the edge of my scar is. It's on the same side where my sciatica is and where my hip keeps trying to subluxate if I don't turn carefully. Please reassure me this is normal and not my body trying to tear open.

Also, is it supposed to hurt when I cough or sneeze? I feel like I'm post-op postpartum again.....

Re: Pregnancy pains?

  • I've heard there can be some pain as your uterus grows and stretches out the scar tissue.

It may also be round ligament pain - my RLP is more to the side than my scar extends (I believe - Lord knows I can't see it anymore) but that definitely has hurt when I cough/sneeze/stand up...  fun times!  Thought about chiropractic?  I found a Dr. who specializes in the Webster technique and she also has shown DH how to apply very gentle pressure to the round ligament area to lessen that pain.  Sounds like you're having some pelvic issues already, anyhow...

  • I have been seeing one since 9 weeks (DS has gone twice, too). I love her. My pelvis is out of alignment about 4-5 days after seeing her (from a previous injury) so I have been there almost once a week. It really is amazing what she does.

  • Sounds like round ligament pain to me, especially since it hurts when you cough or sneeze.  I've had lots of RLP in both of my pregnancies and it feels a lot like what you are describing.

I have also heard of people's scars feeling weird as they get stretched out.  But I am positive you are not going to tear open. ;)

  • I have the same thing. I am sure you will be fine but if it is enough to scare you and stress you out, talk to your doctor. I think it is just RLP.

  • I had some pain early on, especially in a spot where I've had pain that I have always attributed to adhesions. My MW said that it is common, especially as the uterus is lifting out of the pelvis. She also said that it may happen towards the end long with some itching. But what you are describing sounds like RLP. I had it occasionally last time, and I think it was much later, but it happens to me all the time now. I think I have heard that that is common after the first pregnancy. You could ask your MW if it would ease your mind, but it sounds normal to me!

  • I have the same thing too, but it just started recently.  I'm going to talk to my midwife about it at my appt this Thursday.  I'm pretty sure it's RLP though, I vaguely remember having it last time, though less severe than I've been feeling this week.  I get lots of sharp pains especially at night when I am flipping over.
