A friend asked me if I would watch her baby for the next several weeks (1 month old). She said I could watch the at her place. I would really like to help out and watch her child. However, I do not have CPR training and have never care given or been around 1 month olds very much. I explained to my friend that I do not have CPR or any other training. She said that this is okay. I intend on going over and shadowing my friend for a day and having my husband assist me sometimes (he has lots of experience). I feel I am up for this opportunity.
Now, here is the question: Liability. Should I be concerned about this? Should I draft up an agreement of some sort? Does anyone have this with their caregiver? Are there other things to consider before agreeing to this opportunity? Thanks for your assistance.
Re: Liability and caregiver question
I personally wouldn't allow a person to watch my child if they didn't have some sort of childcare training/certification. Even the 2 15 year old sitters we use have the Red Cross babysitting certification, so my DC provider sure as heck better.
I guess if she is willing to let you watch her LO, knowing you do not have the training, and if you guys are friends... I'd think the verbal agreement would be enough? IDK, if you have been honest with her about you capabilities then she has the information needed to make the decision. Also, since it is just temporary, it's not like she would expect you to go out and get certified in CPR, just for a couple week job.
I would just make sure the both of you are on the same page about expectations.
