3rd Trimester

Something no one ever told me...

I had my baby girl on Friday and she is my second child.  I just thought I would give you moms that will be having your second a heads up that you have contractions after you have the baby.  I don't mean like immedietaly after but for like a week after you have the baby.  They are not unbareable but they do feel like the worst period cramps you could ever have.  Hope this helps some of you...

  • I second this- never noticed that with my son, but after my daughter- woah! everytime I would nurse the contractions were really rough the first few days. Supposedly it gets worse with each pregnancy, so I am expecting it this time as well.

  • I had contractions pretty much every time I nursed DS for the 1st week or so. I was told that would happen, didn't even realize there were women out there who it didn't happen to the 1st time.

  • Nursing stimulates the release of oxytocin, which causes the uterus to contract. Just means that your ute is trying to shrink back up to normal size. I have no idea why it is worse with subsequent pregnancies. Maybe because because your body has to work harder to whip itself back into shape. Just a thought.

  • My childbirth instructor mentioned this last night - said that most first timers don't notice it, but second timers and onward almost always do.

Yay for team one and done?

  • I noticed it with both of mine, but only the first couple of days when I nursed. It was only bad a few times. Everyone and every body is different. It will be tough for some and nothing for others, just like period cramps.
  • I remember these contractions and they suck, they are worst if you are breast feeding to.
