3rd Trimester

You think they'll do bedrest???

I have a scheduled induction on the 28th because of pregnancy-induced hyptertension.  I've never had high blood pressure and it's risen to 130/94 for this pregnancy.  The dr. told me that if the bottom number gets close to 100, that's her "red flag" where we'll need to change our plan.  Well, my school nurse checks it daily.  (I'm a school teacher.)  This morning it was 124/100 and just now it was 128/95.  That top number is great, but the bottom number is what my dr. is very concerned about.

I left a message with her and am waiting on a call back.  I'm so nervous because she's said all along, "we want that bottom number under 100."  I'm scared for my baby and me.  What do you think they'll recommend?

  • Just browsing the third tri cause I'm so close but wanted to chime in.

I just got back from the dr and my BP was 158/90 and I have protein in my urine  as well as a bladder infection but I'm on modified bed rest till my appt tuesday.  Good luck.

  •  I have no idea what your doctor will recommend but what I recommend is for you to take a deep breath and be confident that between you and your DR you will make the best decisions for you and your babies health. Try not to freak out before you speak with your DR, it will only make you panic more.

So, breathe. Let us know what happens. T&P.

  • You're full term, do you think there's just a possibility they'll induce? Does bedrest help BP?

  • You're technically full term so they may just induce or they could do bedrest for another week or so. Hard to say. If you aren't spilling protein or have pre-e symptoms they may let you ride it out.

  • Since your full term, hopefully they will just induce you earlier then the 28th. Also, focusing on your blood pressure might make it higher, so just try to relax and think about something else, it may go down. Good Luck though!

  • I would think they would check your protein again and have you come in for monitoring.

If it continues to be over 100 after several checks then she would probably change course or put you on bedrest.

I had PIH forever and it changed in two days from PIH to severe pre e and had to deliver asap. My bp was 200's over 120's.

I would suggest if you can to head home and rest on your left side for a while and see if it goes down.

Good luck. I know you've been struggling with the BP issues for a while!

  • w/ DS my BP's bottom # was in the 90's beginning around 36 wks.  They made me do a 24 hr urine analysis which came back fine so I was put on bedrest until 40 wks which I was then induced with no other complications.

My guess is they will do the same for you and as long as everything else looks good, they will probably put you on BR unless it becomes really elevated.

  • i went to the dr yesterday and my blood pressure was 137/90 and the baby was very high so she had me do a ultrasound to check for size and fluid. And we scheduled a c-section for friday. It depends on how your doctor feels. since you are full term they may induce you.
