Detroit Babies

Is it true?

CW's were just talking about certain brands of diapers being good for different gender babies.  Like girls should only use _____ and boys should use ______.  (Mind you, I work with children 'experts' that I have to hear sh!t from all.day.long!)

As someone who doesn't have any kids, is that true?  I just figured you bought what was on sale and keep it name brand.

Re: Is it true?

  • Eh - I have friends with kids of all genders and they all prefer different brands for their kids.  It's just what works for you and your child.  My friend's aunt bought her diapers whenever a brand went on sale so she had a collection of different types to try out when the baby was born.  She said it was one of the best gifts ever - she ended up with Costco's brand as her choice.

Another friend swears by Huggies, another won't use anything but Pampers - it's just what you find works best.

  • I had heard that Huggies were good for girls and Pampers were good for boys. That was definitely true for my little guys. Huggies leaked every single time. Pampers never leaked. My friends with girls much preferred Huggies.
  • We used Huggies the first couple weeks... we definitely had a lot of leaks the first couple weeks on DS - none that I remember for DD.  Now I am not sure if that was the diapers issue or our lack of skill in the diapering department.

We use Pampers now for both DS and DD and they work great for both.

  • We only used Pampers for the first year and a half ... but then I started couponing and tried Huggies, because I was getting them for a $2-3 a pack. I didn't notice much of a difference (leak-wise). In the end, I switched to Target brand and will likely try those with DS. (But I prefer Huggies Pullups over Pampers and Target now that we're potty training.)

It's like anything else baby-related ... everyone has an opinion based on some horrible leak/blowout experience. Just buy a few different packs to start (you can always donate what you don't use to a friend or women's shelter).

  • I use all different brands.  I will say my favorite brand is Pampers though.  I never had an issue with Huggies, I actually really like them a lot, but I don't get as good of a deal on them as I do with Pampers.  I also used Up&Up from Target, Kirkland Brand from Costco and they both work great too.

  • I used mainly used Pampers for DD & never had a problem.  I also used Huggies, Luvs & CVS brand w/her and no problems as well.  With DS I tried the Target brand & have used them exclusively, along w/the Target brand pull-ups now for DD.  For me I like to save money, and I was getting more diapers for my buck w/the Target brand.

The thing is, don't stock up on 1 brand at first: my mom wanted me to wear Pampers, but darn if it worked out that I got rashes from them (& this was back in 1974).  She said I had to wear Huggies since they didn't cause me to break out.  Of course when I became pg w/DD everyone said "you must use Pampers & nothing else."  Funny how they became quiet when I told them my story as a baby.  You just have to see what works.

  • I've used huggies, pampers, target up&up and costcos kirkland brand for ds.  I've had good luck with all of them.  I use the target ones the most just because they are the best deal.

  • I think I have used every brand out there!  The only ones I really didn't like were Toys R Us brand.  When DD was first born, I preferred Pampers, but as she has gotten older/bigger, it hasn't mattered as much.  We usually use Huggies or Target because I can get the best deals on them.

Ditto what everyone else has said...get a few different brands to try and see what you like!  Also remember it might change as they get bigger.
