3rd Trimester

Anxiety and Sleepless nights

Good evening ladies.  Or shall I say good morning?  I've been suffering from sever anxiety.  I'm seeing a therapist for it but it seems like it is getting worse.  I have an appointment on Thursday and plan on discussing this with my doc.  Until then....Are any of you suffering from anxiety?  Are you on meds for it?  What kind of meds?  What about insomnia?  Anyone taking anything for that?  I"m usually anti med due to the fact that in the past they really messed me up.  However, I'm afraid that if I don't get this issue fixed I wont be the mother my child deserves.  Any advice welcome.  Thank you!

Re: Anxiety and Sleepless nights

  • I am currently taking a very small dose of Celexa.  I have always been very high-strung, but this is the first time I have ever been prescribed meds for it.  Talk to your OB.  I also had PPA after DD.

  • I am taking Zolpidem for insomnia.  I rarely, if ever, take meds.  Usually 1-2x a year for cramps or headache.

Zolpidem is the generic form of Ambien.

I was having trouble achieving deep sleep, and my brain just wouldn't "turn off."  I was thinking about everything and anything.  The Zolpidem helps me to get to sleep, but I still wake up for the day around 4-5am, and still wake up to use the restroom.

  • I had really bad insomnia for 3/4 of a year last year, i found melatonin started working after a while.  Can't take that when preggo.  Being pregnant overwhelmed the insomnia for the first trimester.  2nd trimester I had cycles of a few sleepless nights and then a crash.   My doc said I could take benadryl occasionally if it would help.  so i rotate that in very occassionally....
  • I also have horrible anxiety.  I am taking the lowest dose of zoloft right now while i am pregnant but am planning on going back up to a normal dose of celexa as soon as the baby is born.  I am seeing a psycho therapist every three weeks and my psychiatrist once every three months or so for med checks.  I am scared to death of labor and delivery and being a good mom, so  i am trying to keep things under control the best i can for the next ten weeks!!! good luck!!!
