Pregnant after IF

Question about Cevical Length and the Glucose test

Yesterday when they did the anatomy scan they also check my cervical length.  It was 3.5 which she said was good, they don't start to worry til it hits 2.5.  Is 3.5 short for 19 weeks?  I guess I expected it to be longer.  The Dr. wasn't worried so I guess I shouldn't be.

I also am having an early glucose test because of PCOS.  She said I may have to take it a few times.  Were you told to fast before the test?  I was told I didn't have too, but won't that effect the results?

Re: Question about Cevical Length and the Glucose test

  • I had to take the GTT at 22 & 28 weeks because of my weight and passed both easily. I didnt have to fast, but it was just easier for me to get up and do it first thing in the morning. Thats what they suggested too. And Cara- do they know if your boys are identical? So exciting!

I'm so nervous about the Glucose test.  I am glad they're  having me start taking it early because if I do have it, I would rather know as soon as possible!

As far a know they're fraternal!  We're still nervous that we're going to mix up their names or something in the beginning!!!

  • I'm not sure what an average cervical length is, I bet it varies from woman to woman but it sounds nice and strong now.  I did an early glucose test and did not have to fast, good luck - I hope you pass and another big YAY on your boys.

  • I'm not sure about the specific cervical length. I know they measured mine at the anatomy scans, but they just told me that it was normal (whatever that means).

There are a few different ways to do the glucose test. For mine, I can eat up to the time when I drink the orange stuff. After I drink that, I can't eat until after they draw my blood an hour later.

  • Cervical length seems to vary by person. Mine has measured 3.6 at both 16 and 20 weeks. I've read about some women being over 4 or even 5 and that made me feel like mine was short but really, it's fine! As long as there's not a huge change I wouldn't worry.

No idea about the glucose test...my OB hasn't even mentioned it to me yet!

  • This might be a dumb questions.  Does height have anything to do with CL?  Since I'm only 5'1 would that make my CL shorter then someone who is 5'9?

     No idea, but I'm 5'9!

  • I think 3.5 for 19 w with twins is excellent. I took the glucose test several times as well. 4 actually! And I passed all 4 times and did not have to fast before.

  • RE: CL - normal is between 3 and 4cm so you're doing great!

RE: GTT - you don't have to fast for the 1 hour!

This for me as well.  I am taking mine early because of PCOS as well and was told to eat a normal breakfast that morning.  Then I will drink the orange stuff and have my anatomy scan while I wait the hour for b/w.  I was told that I will have to take it again possibly 2 more time.  Oh well

  • I had my cervical length checked at 16w and also last week at 18w... it was 3.8 both times, which the Peri said was great.  She also told me that they don't worry about anything over 2.5.

Good luck with your glucose testing!

  • I was told to eat normally for the one-hour, but I did have to fast overnight for the three-hour (passed that one).
