Hair loss.....ugh!

I've always heard that your hair can sometime fall out after pregnancy due to hormones dropping off, etc.  I really thought/hoped that I had passed this stage by, since H is almost 4 months old, and my hair was still growing beautifully like it was when I was pregnant.  Well....I wasn't so lucky.  This past week my hair is falling out in clumps in the shower each morning......wah! Crying

I am also hoping that the 4-month wakeful period passes us by, too.....wishful thinking, right?!

Mama and Mamas-to-Be: What stage of pregnancy/early mama-hood/baby developmental stage are you hoping passes you by?

Re: Hair loss.....ugh!

  • I am sorry... like you, I thought I got away with it when none of my hair fell out during the first few months...then right around 5 months, both her hair and my hair started to fall out!!! Crying

she started to look like a balding little baby and that was more upsetting to me than my own hair falling out (b/c it's so thick anyway)

what really sucks about your hair falling out.... is it growing back in!!! OMG I had no idea... all of a sudden i started to notice short wispy strands all along the front of my hairline... they are still growing in and look like someone did a bad job cutting my bangs... only I don't have bangs, just some hairs that look like bangs so it's a pretty awkward look.

and to answer your Q.... it's still a year away but i am definitely hoping we skip the terrible 2's!

Oh, no!!! This is what I'm really worried about!  I can handle my hair loss, but Henry's?  NO!!!!!  In fact, I think we might bring him in next week or so for his first haircut.  We want to leave the top alone, but the sides and back are getting so long, they're driving me nuts.  But if he lost it.....  Oh, I would be so sad! Crying

I have heard this a lot...lots of my friends complained about all of the fine hairs that stick straight up while they are growing in!

and Leah, things I am not looking forward to...teething!!  We are still not sleeping through the night & I have a feeling as soon as we do, it will end as quick as it started thanks to teething!  Maybe LO won't mind cutting teeth!  Stick out tongue

  • You're at that point where it starts falling out :(  Sorry it didn't pass you by!!

I was hoping he would come out of the womb potty trained, but alas, I didn't get that lucky.  I think we've hit every stage pretty much on time.  I just wish the separation anxiety will pass soon.

  • my hair is falling out constantly.  Thankfully, my mane is pretty thick, but after each shower, I feel like there's enough hair in the drain to donate to Locks of Love! it's kinda gross.

I, too, am looking forward to  getting past the teething phase. K is constantly putting things in his mouth and getting frustrated that it isn't hitting the "right" spot.  So he yells and cries and is just unhappy; which makes for an unhappy and sad mama :(

  • Tell me about it!  My hair is everywhere... I saw it in DS's diaper this morning, O.M.G :P

  • I'm still losing hair. It's so very sad. :(

I am still waiting for a good, long night of sleep for me. LO goes to bed at sundown, so while he's technically STTN, it's not really during MY sleeping hours. We've also had no luck getting him to bed later, so I'm just hanging in there for now.

  • I feel your pain. My hair is thin and fine to begin with, so I never really got the lustrous pregnancy mane that some women get - it basically just got up to "normal" thickness. When it didn't fall out right away after the boys were born, I started feeling hopeful that maybe it would stick around...but nope, it started falling out in clumps at around the 5 month mark. Crying

As to what I'm hoping to avoid...honestly, I'll just be happy if the boys go back to sleeping through the night! They slept for 8-9 hours starting at 12 weeks old, but for the last month or month and a half they've been waking for at least one (sometimes two!) feedings per night again. I know it's just a phase, but it's killing me!

  • Oh no! I am hoping that I skip over hair loss...my hair has always been so thin to begin with. I'm also hoping I don't come up against colic.

  • My hair loss started at 3 months pp. But I was already complaining of too much hair while pg (and they were growing like mad, so I ended up chopping off a good 5 inches while pg), so I wasn't horribly worried at first. But after weeks and weeks of just endless clumps of hair, I got worried. And like MrsIH, it was in LO's diapers and EVERYWHERE! Every time we let him roam on our bed or on the floor, he ends up with a gob of my hair! Gross! They're still falling out but not as crazy as the beginning so I'm hoping that it will ease out soon.

I think we're just past the 4-month wakeful (a little late since he's 6 months now but he's been developing like crazy and he'd get up on all fours and crawl in his sleep and wake himself up) but he's *finally* going for 8hr stretches now. Thank God. Now I'm afraid of teething. He hasn't gotten any teeth yet and I'm hoping that we won't get a another stretch of wakeful nights with teething now that he's finally sleeping well.

I'm crossing my fingers for you! I think it was actually worse that my boys slept for 8-9 hours for about 2 months and then started waking again vs just waiting longer to start sleeping for long stretches...I got used to getting sleep and it's harder now than it was when they were newborns lol!
