Re: what is your secret...

  • - Always make time for each other.

    - Communicate and LISTEN.

    - Do small things for your spouse that mean the world to them.

    - When you fight, remember why you fell in love in the first place. It will soften your voice and open your eyes more to why this fight means nothing.

    - Keep your sex life alive and FUN!

  • Date nights! There is no better way IMO to keep you both aware of how lucky you are and why you shouldn't take one another for granted.

Communication. Make sure you listen as much as you talk.

Sharing everything, no matter how small it may seem.

    Quality sex and cuddle time.

Learning how to make his favorite meal perfectly and using it as a tool-and-or weapon, when needed.

Haha - I'd agree with that!

Otherwise, communication, respect, patience, don't sweat the small stuff. We've been through A LOT in our 2.5 of marriage and have already been tested beyond my wildest imagination. Without the aforementioned I wouldn't be married still.

Realize that it's about you two first before anyone else- your marriage is a priority and a partnership. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks- as long as you two are happy and on the same page.

  • Forcing myself to talk to him, even when I don't feel like it. Sometimes it just takes too much energy to stay mad.

  • Communication is huge, intimacy and making time for each other is also very important.  I also think making sure you take time for yourself to do things by yourself is important.  If you don't take care of yourself, you won't be happy in a marriage or out of marriage.  So take care of yourself and encourage your partner to take care of himself and do things that really contribute to his well being.

  • Waking up everyday thinking "what can I do to make our lives better today?"  My postive energy usually rubs off on him.  My negative energy can do the same.

We hold hands a lot.  Touching each other like that means more to me than saying "I love you".  By touch, you have a constant reminder of love, support, and comfort.

  • realizing that a healthy marriage has it's ups and downs. You won't always agree, you'll get annoyed at the other person, and things are not always easy. My parents taught me that one - they've had hard times throughout their 34 year marriage but they've always gotten through it together. Knowing that it can suck at times makes the good times that much better.

ETA - After reading through some of the things you gals listed, I want to add one more - knowing that every marriage is different and being okay with that!

  • We put each other first, and always make our relationship first priority. We put emphasis on communication - both in the way we speak to each other, and remembering that neither of us are mind readers. If I don't tell him how I feel, he's not going to know. We also don't go to bed angry.
