My mom said she would pay 1/2 of one of the 3D ultrasounds at one of the 'sneak a peek' type places so we could find out the gender before Christmas. Basically she is just way too excited for her own good and wants to start shopping.I'm so tempted and ready to find out! I'm not even worried about the fact that DH wont be here, because he wouldn't be here for the 'big scan' anyway. We do however plan on paying for one once he is home so he can experience what an ultrasound is like. (I think I actually might be able to pay for a DVD add on or something for us to keep/him to see)
Would you do it (assuming your not team green)? Or am I just being overly excited?
Re: Anyone paying for an extra/optional ultrasound?
If my doctor's office didn't do 3D scans I would. As luck would have it they don't (but I do know ladies who routinely get 3D scans) and so we plan on doing one around 30w. I would check with the place and make sure they will let you do it earlier. The one we have talked to said they like you to wait till 28-30 weeks.
If you want to spend the money to have it done, I say go for it.
Okay, I just looked at one of the places online and I guess its just 2D for early gender determination. I got ahead of myself and read one of the packages that offers some in 3D/4D, but the gender thing is 2d. lol
It says they can do it between 15-22 weeks. If they can't determine it you can come back within 2 weeks for no extra charge.
Ahh its so tempting!
DH and I are guilty of the early gender scan lol. We had one done on Friday for $25 at a local place. They think we are having a little girl, which DH and I both thought the whole time anyway. We enjoyed seeing the LO swimming around and it was awesome to see how much she had developed since the last time we saw her. For us it was definitely worth the money.
Here there is one place that does the Gender thing for $75, and one that does it for $85. The each have ones that are a 'step up' with a DVD, CD, and extra pictures. It seems like a lot of money compared to the prices you both listed. I think I still might do it, but I feel cheated after reading the $25 price tag! lol
Yeah seriously, $25 seems like a no brainer lol
If it makes you feel better it was really sketchy lol. DH didn't want to get out of the car, oh and they only took cash which in my book is suspicious. The lady did a good job, she was professional enough, it was just a large leap from doctor's offices we were used to. The only other place I could find around here was called Before the Stork or something like that and they were much more expensive. I found them on yelp.com. Have you checked there for local places?

I just made an appt for a 3D ultrasound in Maryland that runs from $80 (2d) to 115 (3D/4D, DVD, music, etc). I am doing the middle package that is $95. This include a 5-10 minute ultrasound with 3D & 4D imaging, gender determination, and two color photos.
We won't have any anatomy scan before Christmas and we are crazy excited to know what we're having. So our appt is going to be Wednesday December 22 and they are going to put the results in a sealed envelope.
DH and I will open it on Christmas day

Sketchy or not, for $25, I'd definitely do it! Around here, even the gender determination scans start at $80 and you have to have had your 2nd trimester ultrasound first.
At the places near us, the gender ID scans are around $70-$80 and they're 2D. However, the OB was more than willing to schedule our big anatomy scan at 17w5d. Since we're having ID twins, we get regular 2D u/s's every 4 weeks after 20 weeks, so if there's something they can't see well, they can pick it up at a later scan. Thus, we're finding out the genders in 2 weeks! AH! Cannot wait!
We decided that the 3D/4D scans were too expensive (they're around $150-$200 here), so we'd rather get maternity photos with the money. Besides, we'll get a ton of u/s's anyway (since we need more monitoring with twins anyway), so it just didn't seem worth the money for us.
However, my mom was so upset that we weren't doing it that she's shelling out the cash for one as a Chanukkah/Christmas gift to us! They said they'd prefer us to come in around 24-26 weeks since there's 2 babies, so we'll schedule it for the end of January. Everyone's so excited to get to go, we're having both sets of parents and both sets of grandparents come. We have a 30 minute scan that comes with 6 color photos, a CD of all the photos they take and a DVD of the entire scan set to music for the price. So, now we get to do what we want with our money and still get the 3D/4D scan
