Repeat c/s mamas... easier recovery?

I'm wondering if the pain will be less this time because half my stomach is still numb from the 1st one! (well, that's what it seems like anyways)

First c/s was planned also- I did go into labor beforehand, but didn't get far and no pushing, so not like I had to recoup from that too!

I'm just nervous about having a toddler at home this time and trying to do things! TIA!

Re: Repeat c/s mamas... easier recovery?

  • My repeat C was great. I had heard it was an easier recovery but wasn't sure I should believe it. The recovery has been SO much better this time. By the time I came home from the hospital I was feeling really good. I didn't really need my pain meds once I was home (maybe 1 time a day for a couple of days). I have a very hyper 3yr old and I was so worried I would feel awful, but I didn't. I also had my husband home with us for 3 weeks and that really helped. His first day back to work was today, and I survived! I'm sure everyone has a different experience, but I hope recovery goes great for you too Smile Good Luck!

  • I had a harder recovery this time.  But I had a very bad reaction to the morphine in the spinal.  I vomited for 12+ hours constantly after delivery.  This made me SO sore.  Then having a 40lbs toddler did not help.
  • My recovery on the 2nd was a little more difficult.  Mainly because I had my first at 23 and my second at 38.  An older body takes a little longer to heal, so they say.  Good luck on yours, I'm sure you will do great.

  • I had my 2nd c-section this summer and it was a breeze compared to the 1st! My friends were astonished I was standing and holding my 2 yr old up to see the new baby in the hospital. The first time my doctor used staples and this time she used dissolvable stitches and I think that made a big difference for me. I didn't realize they actually cut off your first scar and dispose of it. I thought they just cut through it and staple it back up. With my first I couldn't even stand up straight for weeks. This time I hardly had to take pain meds when I got home.

I think it helped this summer in the hospital that I took the Motrin before I was in big time pain. It helped me get on my feet quicker to not be doubled over in pain. Last time I tried to not take much and I think it hurt my recovery. No being the hero this time around!!

Good luck to you! I hope you have the same luck that I did :-)

  • My second one was cake! My kids are 20 months apart. However I have to agree with a previous post, my 3 was MUCH MUCH harder. The biggest difference was my age!
