Marissa vs Keely

my husband and i are expecting our first, a girl! we are stuck between Marissa Joyce and Keely. we also need a middl name for Keely (i like Alice, he likes Rae) Let me know your thoughts! thanks!!!

    I don't like Keely at all. And how could it compare to Marissa Joyce, which is classic and enduring? Keely just looks... blah and made up and unintelligent.

    No offense to anyone else who loves the name, but since you asked, Keely sounds trashy and overly trendy.  Low class trying too hard to sound classy.

    Marissa on the other hand?  Lovely and classic.

    Agree. Keely reminds me of "keeling over" and gives me the mental image of a person puking their guts out.

    Marissa isn't my favorite name, but it's much better than Keely, IMO.  I LOVE Joyce, it's so pretty and underused nowadays.

    I like Marissa bc you can call her Mari. Keely doesn't bother me too much, but I know I would try to call her Kelly before Keely.

    Well K is a very popular letter right now, and I can think of at least three Keely (with one or two spelling variations) posts in the last few weeks.

    Marissa is underused and underappreciated, and I love the sound. I prefer the Marisa spelling (Marissa looks like it was influenced by Melissa), but it wins by a landslide for me.

    I totally vote for Marissa, but why couldn't you use Joyce as a mn for Keely? Keely Joyce sounds much better than either Keely Alice or Keely Rae. Keely Alice doesn't flow well at all, and Keely Rae sounds a little too country bumpkin.

    I peruse this board occasionally, but never feel compelled to comment. I just had to today. Keely is great; a classic, traditional, Irish name. I would ordinarily say Marissa is okay, but after reading these posts, I'll be honest. Marissa is the farthest thing from a "classic, enduring" name. What an absurd idea. Marissa is a plain at best, cheap at worst. Keely will only be called "trendy" by people who've never lived outside of one zip code and consider Walmart the height of fashion... and who name their children Marissa.

    Your baby ... your name choice. I have no preference over the two names, not my style so I wont bash your names. :)

    I think you did great with the middle name with Marissa.

    Like someone else said you could add Keely Joyce ... I think thats nice. My only advise would be to keep it a one syllable middle name if you go for Keely.

    Definetly Keely! It is my daughter's name and I LOVE it! Marissa is very popular and reminds me of the 90's.  Keely is NOT a made-up name...it is a Irish name with an awesome meaning.  I love Keely Rae!

    thanks for all your input so far. just an fyi Joyce is a family name on my side. my middle name is Joy, my grandmother and aunt/godmother are both Joyce (hence the reason it reminds you of old women) right now were leaning towards Marissa but my hubby seems to flip flop everyday.
