Blood after bowel movement...scary

Anyone else experience a bit of vaginal bleeding after a strained bowel movement?  First time for me this morning.  It was definitely vaginal blood - just a bit of bright red on the tissue.  Didn't show up the 10 other times I used the bathroom after that.  I emailed my doctor and since I have an appointment Thursday, she said to just come in then and she'll examine me but to call if there was more bleeding or cramps.  I'm sure everything is fine, but now I'm not going to sleep well until Thursday.  Baby is still kicking up a storm, so that is good.  Sigh.  I've only had spotting one other time in my pregnancy -- in the first weeks after finding out right after one instance of intercourse.  Maybe it's the same issue (cervix was bothered somehow by all the straining?).  Ahhh.

  • I have had this happen a couple times. I just increased my fiber intake and water intake. Try not to worry about it, if you aren't cramping and it has stopped you are most likely alright.

  • Thanks!  It freaked me out because I still check the toilet paper for blood everytime I go just from early miscarriage fear (I think pregnancy is creating a case of OCD for me) and so there it was this time.  Ugh.  Glad to know I"m not alone.
  • I'm not trying to be snarky at all...Were you implying because it was bright red blood that it was definitely vaginal blood?

  • Nope -- after I saw it on the first wipe, I purposely took some tissue and wiped my vaginal area to check where it was coming from and it was definitely coming from there.

  • Ok just wanted to make sure!  I first thought my anal blood was vaginal blood.

  • You are definitely not alone! I have had this happen to me four or so times in the past couple of months. It is definitely vaginal blood and it is after a particularly strenous BM (though I try hard to drink lots of fluids and never try too hard to go). I have done a bit of looking around on this and I think it's what you mentioned, that our cervixes are just getting a bit irritated with the pushing.

I had this happen to me on Saturday and have not had any bleeding since then. Today was my big ultrasound and everything looks fantastic. No worries I say!
