Those who had successful VBAC

I am looking for some positive stories out there. Especially if your first was due to "failure to descend" but all experiences welcome. I am 32 weeks meet with my new OB for the second time tomorrow to go over more and would love to hear good things.

DS didn't descend but my c/s was an emergency because his heart rate wasn't strong enough after my water broke (he was in a weird position and probably on his cord and he was so big we couldn't get him to move off of it). He was 10 lbs, 2 oz and completely fine!

I successfully VBACed my DD after waiting until 41 weeks and then being induced with pitocen. I had a really supportive midwife and a very VBAC friendly hospital. I know most people aren't able to go to 41 weeks nor do they have a pitocen option, but DD was head down and low and ready to go (after 16 hours of labor;-) She was 8 lbs 5 oz and had a textbook birth!

Let me know if there is anything specific you'd like to know about but the most important thing I can tell you is that you need a very supportive birth team! I trusted my midwife completely and knew that she had both my and my daughters safety in mind and I would trust any call she made.

Thanks for your reply, I went to see the hospital we switched to and they mentioned putting DS on my chest and I almost got misty. I didn't get that with DS #1 either, I also felt so out of it I was like yep there he is.

Hopefully this time will be different.

Yeah, I got to hold DS1 for about 20 minutes (after I was stitched up and in recovery, so an hour+ after he came out) until he was taken away for antibiotics, which turned into a 48-hour NICU stay. Sigh. DS2 was checked over by some pediatricians when he was born, but was in my arms within five minutes. Such a nice feeling!

I went into labor on my own with DS1, and pushed for 4+ hours until I had an ultrasound and it was determined he was posterior/sunny-side up, and a c-section was the only option left. DS2 was 2+ pounds bigger, but in an anterior position and was a sucessful VBAC after two hours of pushing. My sister had almost the same exact story - her first was in a bad position and ended in a c-section, and her second was lined up well and a VBAC.

With DD, I developed pre-e when I was full term, so they induced me. I was put on mag. sulfate and in labor for 24 hours. After pushing for 3 hours and her not coming down, they did a c-section.

With DS, I went into labor on my own 4 days before my EDD and had a wonderful experience! I labored at home until my water broke, went to the hospital, got an epidural at around 6cm dilation and quickly went to 10cm after that. I pushed for 15 minutes and he was out! The best part of the whole thing (for me) was the moment they placed him onto my chest, right after he was delivered. I didn't get that experience with DD and it was something I always wish I had.

The recovery was so much easier for me too!

Great story. If I have any future children I would love for it to happen like this. I really wanted to hold her but couldn't for I don't know how long (felt like I was in and out of things and was shaking horribly).

I should add that with the birth of DD, DH got to help "catch" her and as soon as she was out I grabbed her and put her on my chest:-) I so needed that after having terrible side effects from my c-section which resulted in them having to knock me out right after DS was born and I didn't get to hold him until he was three hours old.

This gives me so much hope, since my c/s was also for an OP baby that wasn't descending.

My first was failure to progress after I stopped at 8 cms for several hours. DS was never engaged.

with DD I had my membranes stripped at 40 weeks and 5 days. My water broke 4 hours later. Contractions started on their own 10 hours after that and I got some pitocin later to get them more regular. I finally got to 10 cms 31 hours after my water broke then I pushed for 2 hours and 17 minutes. DD was born at 2 minutes after midnight at 41 weeks.

I, like the 1st poster, totally trusted my doctor. I knew he would not section me unless someones life was in real danger. He stuck to his word. Many of other doctors would have cut me open many times during my 33 hours of labor. Although it was very long and not 'perfect', my VBAC was amazing and worth every minute.

I can't tell you how much this story gives me hope! I was in the same position, with pre e, an induction that started on friday and pushing that started on sunday. We were induced at 37 even, and then filled with every induction drug they could find, plus magnesium sulfate for the bp. He felt like he was stuck, he never came all the way down. I just kept feeling like, we aren't ready, we need more time. After 3.5 hours they made the call for surgery.

I am due in Feb. with DD, and I can only hope that it will go this way for us.

I want to hold my baby first, not last*. I want to feel like myself, not like a doped up version that can barely sit up on her own, let alone hold her infant.

*obviously I was not "last", but that's how it felt.

With DS we had the c/s due to fetal distress. After 15 hours of labor the cord was wrapped around his body and he wasn't able to descend from it. Once his heart rate starting dropping I was only at 6cm and they whisked me off to the OR. My water broke with him at the start of labor at home so I was running against the clock as well. For a while I was so bitter that I swore they did the c/s only cause it was time for a shift change lol.
