? about potty training boys

When did you have them start standing up to pee?  Liam is using a potty ring on the toilet right now.  We're not seriously potty training yet, but he is peeing on the potty a few times a day, so I was just curious.  I've heard about having them aim for cheerios in the toilet or whatever, but is that once they're older?

Re: ? about potty training boys

  • I didn't worry about it until peeing outside became necessary.  Even though he can pee in the woods or off the boat like a champ, he still sits most of the time to pee inside.  Even in public I like him sitting instead of standing, because when he stands he leans against the bowl and touches all sorts of nasty areas.  At least when he sits it's just the seat.

And when he does stand, we don't worry about aim.  He likes to make bubbles, so he automatically aims for the water.

  • Scott mostly sits to pee but every now and then wants to stand.  I think at daycare they have them stand b/c it's a kid size potty.  He sees the other boys there do it and then he mimics it.  But at home he usually prefers sitting.  We haven't pushed him to do one or the other.  We just hope he soon starts asking to go so we can hopefully have him mostly potty trained by the time baby #2 arrives.  He pees when we tell him to go but he still has wet diapers and doesn't ask to go.
