Sex after c-section

Hello everyone:  I had my little man 3 weeks ago via c-section and my husband and I are thinking about having sex.

How long did you wait until you had sex after a c-section?  I believe we are ready but i want to be cautious, so i thought i would ask all you lovely ladies out there!

Re: Sex after c-section

  • 6 weeks is what we're supposed to wait.  You're still healing, I wouldn't risk sex so soon if I were you.  Do other things.

  • I waited until after my 6 week check up. I was induced and pushed for 4 hours and it was, obviously, not a scheduled c-section. Even after 6 weeks it was very uncomfortable.

  • 6 weeks.  There is a reason they tell you to wait.  There is a wound in the uterus from where the placenta detached and if you have sex earlier you risk infection.

  • Three weeks pp for me too.  Just had to use lube and take it slow.  Have fun.

  • Did no one else find it painful?? I was shocked that it would hurt considering I didn't have a vaginal delivery. DH and I tried (with lube) a few days shy of 6 weeks and I couldn't handle it. Now I'm scared to try again. Maybe a couple glasses of wine will help. Point is, I'd wait! lol

  • 8 weeks. I was nervous, but it went ok.

  • I just got the ok today at 6 weeks
  • you are supposed to wait 6 weeks for healing purposes - when you have an orgasm the muscles contract in your uterus which may cause bleeding if you arent healed yet.

My hubby and I are going crazy too, but I would recommend waiting the full 6 weeks.

  • Why do people think the doctor cares if it hurts you or not?  Your doctor doesn't care if you need a gallon of lube or none.  The guidance to wait 6 weeks has nothing to do with comfort.  As someone else mentioned, c-section or vaginal delivery, you have a wound in your uterus where the placenta detached.  Your doctor cares that having sex can introduce an infection into your uterus.  And to take it to the extreme, it does have the potential to affect your future fertility.
