Hello,
We will be relocating to the Charlotte area. We have never been to NC and saw online a big lake (Lake Norman) that didn't appear to be too far away. We are wondering how far that area is to downtown Charlotte.
Also looking for recommendations on family friendly places to live with good school systems (on or near the lake). At this stage, any information would be useful.
Thank you
Re: Relocating to Charlotte Area - Recommendations
Hi there! "Welcome" to Charlotte (early!) Lake Norman is a great area, lots to do, places to eat, lots of neighborhoods, etc. If you or SO are working in downtown Charlotte, it would be a bit of a drive each day. It's probably about 30 mins to downtown but then factor in rush hour traffic you could be looking at an hour or more. I don't do that drive so somoene else might know best.
We have lived up near Concord / Harrisburg area before and there is alot to do there, great neighborhoods (check out Highland Creek area), etc.
We currently live in South Charlotte and LOVE this area and plan to stay in this part of town! There are many more places to eat, shop, etc.
I do not know anything about schools as DS is only 6 months old. I would highly recomend checking out Highland Creek or Birkdale Village area if you want to be on the North part of Charlotte!
Good luck! If you have any other questions you can PM me and I will do my best to help out!
Since you are looking for good schools, I would recommend looking in Huntersville or Cornelius. They are both near Lake Norman and have a lot of family-friendly neighborhoods. I live near Huntersville and it is about a 45 minute drive to downtown (or, as we say, "uptown").
Lake Wylie would be another option, and would put you in the South end of town which also has some nice housing options.
You might also want to check out the Ballantyne area - very nice neighborhoods and kid friendly.
