Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Does your baby drink juice?

I have only given DS water, breast milk, or formula up until now.  I'm not sure when I will introduce juice.  I'm thinking it will be a great way to wean as I'm sure he will love juice when I finally give it to him!

Re: Does your baby drink juice?

  • We are not giving her juice until she is 2 or 3.  There is just too much sugar in it.

  • My LO won't drink any thing besides his formula. Not even juice.

This is what we will be doing.

  • yes, Leighton has juice, watered down, a couple times a week
  • DD only gets juice if she is constipated. I do give her Gerber Yogurt juice, which gives her 1/2 a serving of fruit and 1/2 a serving of yogurt. I also give her organic fruit smoothies thinned with water occasionally.
  • DD doesn't like juice or water, only milk.
  • We only give juice when LO is constipated, and i usually mix in with her formula.

  • She has had it before at daycare, but I requested that they give her water only. I don't see the need for it if she will drink water by itself. My 2.5 yr old DS will rarely drink water by itself, and only drinks milk in the morning. Other than that, he only wants juice (so I give him water with about 1/4 juice). I am trying to avoid that with DD.

  • There are sugar free juices out there. lol  Yes my LO gets juice maybe once or twice a week. He loves it, and it also helps with constipation.

  • He does, but because of constipation issues.  Otherwise, it would just be water and formula (or milk).
After 2 years and 6 IUIs, we did it with IVF w/ ICSI!

Yes, Eva usually just has water in her sippy, but I'll also do a 1/2 juice, 1/2 water combo for her too, just for a change.

    you are beautiful!!!!!

  • No, I don't want him to have it.

  • DS's pedi ok'd juice at 6mo. We mostly let him have water, and even then only a max of 6oz per day, but when he has juice we use 100% juice and we dillute it (1/2 juice, 1/2 water) and he only gets 4oz. He actually prefers water to juice right now.

  • Here and there we do. I try to make sure DS's diet is balanced as possible in terms of veggies/fruit/whole grains/meat/etc. If he needs another serving of fruit for that day, we'll substitute apple juice. We buy the one with no added sugar and I usually do 3/4 water to 1/4 juice. I try not to overdo it. He actually prefers plain water over juice.

  • We tried when he was about 5 months old (at the pedi's advice for constipation). He would NOT drink it (pear juice), and back then he hated water so even though we diluted it, no go. We got that situation cleared up and haven't offered any since

  • I'll give it to him every now and then, but he prefers water, and that's fine with me.
    ...
  • I only give it to him if he is constipated, and even then I water it down quite a bit.
  • I will be holding off as long as possible

  • My pedi discouraged fruit juices. He gets enough sugars from real fruits so I was told it's not necessary and not good for his teeth. I don't plan on it anytime soon.

This at least no more than a couple of times unless it is to soften stools.

  • Nope - no juice.  Water, BM and (limited) whole milk only.

  • Only when constipated.  Otherwise, I don't see the point as long as he's drinking water/formula/milk and eating plenty of fresh fruit.

  • No juice - no nutritional value to make it worth it right now.
  • No juice given here.  I haven't decided when I'll introduce it, but it won't be for a while...

  • I've not, nor has DH. The grandmothers, on the other hand... all I have to say is, at least they dilute it.
  • Water and formula only.  Our pedi said the #1 cause of malnutrition/obesity in children is juice, and that was enough for me to decide not to offer it to him.
