TTC After a Loss

For those that had a "normal" cycle prior to m/c?

If you've been TTCAL longer than 1 cycle can you tell me if your cycle has ever returned to "normal" since your m/c?

I am on cycle 3 of TTCAL and I have noticed that there is nothing "normal" about my cycle anymore.  I used to have a regular 28/29 day cycle.  The first three days were light flow and then I'd O wby CD14.  Now, my cycles are all over the place.  The first was 34 days with O on CD19 and the 2nd was 30 days with O on CD15.  Not to mention this cycle I have had a 6 day AF with spotting the last 2 days?!  I never had spotting during AF before, just the 3 days and then it stopped.  Is this the new norm for me?  Or did anyone eventually return to their pre m/c cycle?

  • I can't really answer your question but I've heard your cycles can be wacky after a m/c.. not sure if/when they ever return to "normal". As for me, my cycles were always right around 35 days, then I had an insanely long cycle (literally like 90 days), and eventually we got pregnant. After the m/c I got AF around 35 days (so normal for me before the super long cycle anyway), and ever since provera after my septum surgery my cycle was 30 days. I am hoping my cycles stay at 30 days, but we'll see!

  • I didn't chart the cycle following my m/c (meaning AF was actually my natural m/c). The next cycle I charted and I Oed exactly when I normally do. I can't tell you if the length was normal because I got a BFP (which ended in my 2nd m/c last week).

I've read stories on here from people whose cycles were completely normal right away and others who were wonky for months afterwards.

  • my cycles have completely changed since both MC's.

After my first one, I wouldn't O on my own and they were just all whacked out and I ended up needed a couple cycle of BCP to even out..but after my 2nd, my cycle are normal length but AF is really different and my PMS symptoms are all really really weird.  I'm on my 5th cycle and it appears that things are starting to even out.

It's been almost 2 years since my first BFP and I haven't gone back to pre MC yet.  I hope that helps a little to at least know you're not alone.

  • I can't really comment on the normal before m/c, but my cycles went from being anywhere from 26-34 days long to clockwork/textbook cycles after my m/c. I hope its not the reverse after the ectopic, but time will tell.  I know after m/c cycles can get really wonky.

  • This is my 4th cycle post loss and I think it is now back to normal(ish). My first cycle post loss was short (26 days), but the two since then have been back to 28. My temps have been different post loss, but I think that's maybe just a permanent change.

  • Aargh, this is what's driving me insane right now.  Pre-m/c, I O'ed around day 17, with an 11 or 12 day LP.  This is my 3rd cycle TTCAL aso and it's still wacky.  I've been Oing late and having a 9 day LP, with random mid-cycle spotting thrown in just for fun.  I am on CD21 today and still getting low readings on my CBEFM.

If I have another 9 day LP this time I think I will call my doctor.  She said it could take 3 months for my body to get back to normal, but it has been four months now.  These abnormal cycles make me feel like I don't even have a chance to get KU because my body is still messed up.

  • I had perfectly regular 30 day cycles before my m/c - for years and years. The first cycle after the m/c was 37 days long, then it went wonky for months. I've only felt like it's gone back to "normal" the last two...

My new AF is much shorter than before too. I don't know what that means, but it's just not the way it was.

Good luck. I think more than anything it needs time. I do believe that finding a regular pattern for everything else in your life can help it along. (Eating really well, exercise, lots of sleep...)

  • My cycles were actually the most "normal" right after my loss. Then my O got later and later... I don't think I O'd at all last month Sad
