We don't let our lo CIO. However, bedtime has recently started taking forever! Our lo is 12 months and up until a month or so ago, he went to sleep fine after a bottle, book(s) and rocking. Now, it takes me at least an hour (or longer) to get him to sleep. We are still following the same routine, but he is very fidgity(sp) when trying to fall asleep in my arms. Anyone else having these issues?
What do you do at bedtime, if not CIO?
Also, he usually wakes during the night for no reason and winds up in our bed because he won't go back in the crib. He isn't waking to eat...as soon as his head hits our mattress he is out...lol
Thanks.
Re: does anyone not let lo CIO?
unless Sabrina isn't feeling well, she very rarely lets us just hold her like that- maybe it's time to drop the rocking and try laying him in his crib. follow the same routine, just skip the rocking and see what happens?

808....does he sleep with you every night? Our lo starts out in the crib, but then winds up with in with us by 11 or 12.... Does he sleep in the crib at all?
We are the same way...we tried to CIO last night and lo was too upset(and so were we...lol)....started choking and coughing...awful...lol
McCrae takes a bottle and when he finishes, I put him in his crib, turn on his music and he's out like a light without a peep! If I tried to rock him, he would pitch a fit, fight it and scream bloody murder!
He also use to wake up during the night bc he wanted to get in bed with me. He would also pass out as soon as he laid down with me...So one night I put my monitor on the lowest setting and he cried for 7min and went back to sleep...Been STTN ever since! We both sleep better and we both have much better days.
Also, I changed McCrae's bed time to 9-930....It use to be 8 and we had a rough time getting him to sleep. Now he goes straight down and we don't hear a peep till 730-8 and even then If I'm not ready to get up, f I lay him in my bed he will sleep untill 9. We don't do that very often though
We also bedshare. I've tried NCSS and patting her on the back, and seriously, both are a joke. I am anti-CIO, so we're trying to figure out our next move.
I suppose I could go with my MIL's advice- "Maybe if you just put her in the crib, she'd fall asleep."
I'm glad it's not just me! People keep telling me to just try it again. Really, when it's 2 in the morning, I'm home alone with DS and exhausted, I don't have the energy or heart to have him screaming his head off for even 30 minutes. No thanks.
We used to bedshare full time. About 2 weeks ago, we started moving him to his crib after he falls asleep. When he starts getting tired, I read him a bedtime story and we snuggle. I turn on the sound machine and hold him in my arms and rub his head. When he falls asleep, I move him to his crib. I put lots of pacis in his crib so if he wakes in the middle of the night and fusses, he will find a paci and put himself back to sleep. Sometimes he will fuss uncontrollably and we just bring him back to bed with us, but most nights he's fine on his own.
He sleeps much better that way than he did while we bedshared full time.
No CIO here either. I nurse and rock DS to sleep each night. Sometimes he doses off while nursing. Sometimes I can put him in the crib semi-sleepy, rub his back and he goes out. But sometimes, he fights sleep, but can't get comfortable in my arms. We have a lazyboy in the nursery, so I lean it back all the way, and he kind of lays next to me, with his head on my arm. He wiggles until he gets comfortable while I rock him, he doses off, and then after a few minutes and making sure he's out, I transfer him to the crib. He usually STTN, but if he wakes, I do the same thing.
GL! I'm sorry you're having a rough time!
Oh yes! We use music too. We have a CD player in his room and use a lullaby CD we picked up at Target. I think it's either Baby Einstein's or Little Mozart? Can't remember.
Do you play it all night?
Sorry OP for the hijack. Anyway, we don't like letting our LO CIO. We tried the Ferber method a couple nights ago, but we both hate it. But I really need to find a solution because bedtime and nighttime wakings is taking a toll on me. I have not had an uninterrupted sleep since our LO was born.
No we don't play it all night. Our pedi recomended playing it all night, but when we tried to, he was up like every hour! The CD is about 30 minutes long, so I will play it while I get him ready for bed, nurse him, rock him, etc. When I put him into the crib, I re-start the CD, so it plays for 30 more minutes. If he wakes in the middle of the night, I will restart it as well.
Great advice above
You should post of the AP board (I'm not really an APer) but I bet they would have some great advice for you and encouragement too. I have done CIO and it worked alright. I still go in and rub LO's back or sing to him when he wakes up I just try not to feed him. He likes to sleep on his tummy so falling asleep in my arms annoys him.
I tried CIO for the second time two nights ago - he went down to bed okay but when he woke up at 1:00 am, he screamed and cried in his crib until about 5:00 am. I went in checking on him every 15 minutes, laying him down, patting his tummy but when I would walk out of the room he would start screaming again.
Last night he went down again okay but woke up at 11:00 screaming and crying. Checked on him every 15 minutes and after 2 1/2 hours of crying I just couldn't do it anymore.
So yes, DS wakes up every night and ends up in my bed. I feel like I'm not doing something right with the CIO because it does not seem logical that a baby should cry for 4 1/2 hours.
I'll probably try it again at some point. Maybe next week over the four day weekend.
