Moms of boys... please come in

So this has happened twice now.  I was changing DS's diaper and his penis was inverted!  It was pushed up inside of him and looked like a belly button!  I put my fingers on either side of it and pushed down and it popped back out.  Is this normal??  Please tell me it is and my son doesn't have some weird penis malformation or disorder.

  • I haven't had that happen...or heard of it so I would check with your pedi?

  • i just googled...sometimes it goes away and sometimes it requires surgery.

  • looked like a belly button at the end(tip) right? been there, my hubs says it's good elasticity & that is why males (men,,) can look like they have a small one, but it's really just elasticity! haa!! nice try! I wouldn't be worried but I was the first time I saw this too.... sheesh, these lil guys would be so embarassed by all this if they ever knew (when they're older),,, lol!!

  • We call DS2 penis his 2nd belly button because it looks just like that.  And actually DS3 penis is bigger than DS2 already.  That was one of the 1st things DH said to me after the csection, go figure.

My doc has never mentioned anything wrong with it.  But now you have me wondering.

  • Yes, it is normal. Your pedi can instruct you on how to push back on the skin to bring it out. We do it at most diaper changes. Doesn't hurt him. My older son's did this too as a baby and does not anymore.
  • This happened to DS once.  It freaked me out but it didn't seem to bother him and hasn't happened since.  Glad to see that it's probably normal!
  • This happened with DS1 until he was about 2 years old, my pedi said part of it was due to him being a chubby baby, but now it looks completely normal.  It is also happening with DS2, no biggie.  As long as you push it back at diaper changes you should be fine.  If you don't push it back then it could adhere itself and the dr. will have to push it back her/himself and break the adhesions, sounds painful but it's really not, DS1 had to have that done several times.

yes, our pedi does it every time at well baby visits. Don't think she had to past DS1's 9 month appointment. I do have 2 friends whose sons had the adhere problems past 2 years old. It can be a problem. Their doctors wanted them to keep pushing skin back, but on a 2-year-old???

  • totally normal he was probably cold
  • My pedi says thats normal, especially if your little guy is a little .....chubby! (like mine is)   It doesn't actually INVERT, its just that the fat pads kind of make it disappear!  lol   He says it is nothing to worry about.

This!  My pedi says it is normal also, and is due to lots of belly fat.  It normally comes right back out and I just make sure to clean really good at diaper changes and baths.  I was concerned at first too!
