Sorry this is soooo long! I will start by saying that we waited until this past week because he would not have been ready prior to that and also, I hate hearing my DS cry. I was hesitant but also ridiculously tired (he was waking hourly, needing to be rocked to sleep). I felt like I couldn't focus at work and the final straw way my bff rear-ended someone because she fell asleep at the wheel....everyone was fine but it made me realize that we needed more sleep! Am I trying to justify letting DS CIO?- yes- it's never fun to hear your LO cry!
Okay, so we started last Sunday. He seemed over the 2nd tooth he had recently cut and was also over a cold that had seemed to last forever. We did a modified Ferber. We were basically aiming to get a big first stretch so we said that we would not give him a bottle until 1am. He goes down at 6:30pm. The first night he woke at 10pm. We modified the time table and went in after 3 minutes, then 5, then 7. He stopped crying at the 7 minute mark but it was more from my soothing when I went in than him actually "self-soothing".
Night 2- He woke at 1:15, we gave him a bottle. He woke at 3am. This time we decided we'd do 5-7-10. I went in after 5 minutes, soothed him, walked out and he cried for about 2 more minutes before he self-soothed.
Night 3- he woke for a bottle at 1am and then slept the rest of the night! We continued this way for the remainder of the week.
Last night was night 7 and it was actually awful but then today he's showing all the signs that he's getting another tooth, so I realize times like this will be tough.
Tonight- he cried 45 minutes after I put him down. It lasted literally 2 minutes and he was asleep again. Overall I'd say it has worked great for us.

Ours was probably a bit unusual, but hopefully it helps you out! I think the key with our LO was that he was sooo ready.
