July 2011 Moms

anyone told their boss yet?

so today i didn't get a chance to eat lunch because we were so super busy at work... i did my best to grab snacks and stuff but there was def no real lunch, so its now 5pm and i'm finally sitting down to a monster salad and pizza!

i didn't want to have to tell boss yet about the baby but if its keeping me from being able to take time to get a real lunch then i think i'm going to have to sooner rather than later.

 any thoughts?

  • If your health/the babies health is at risk, you may want to tell them. The other option if you know you won't get a real lunch is to pack a bunch of small snacks like yogurt, raw veggies etc. so you can get some good snacks in.

I haven't told my boss yet.  I got my BFP on Saturday and started a new job on Monday . . . luckily it is a contract that is set to expire on June 30th, so it really shouldn't effect him too much unless he wanted to extend the contract.

  • I haven't told yet either. I'm thinking though that if I start having to run out of class because I'm sick (I'm a high school teacher) it's not going to stay a secret for long...

  • I told my boss at 5wks because I wanted the option to work from home more often depending on how I was feeling. She was very understading! I'm not telling anyone else at work for a few more weeks, though.

  • Stupid me told my bosses sister but I hope she doesn't tell my boss until I am ready (which will probably be in a couple of weeks since we have a xmas party and a small office so they all know about my losses ect).  I am jsut up for a promotion so I don't want it to effect that.   GL!

  • I was trying to hold out until the first of the year but I'll have to tell her sooner than that.  We are mandated to get the flu vaccine (work for a hospital) and the due date for the vaccine is before I'm out of my 1st trimester.  My doctor does not recommend getting the vaccine until I'm out of my 1st trimester, which is at the end of December.

*Yes, I know many of you have already gotten the flu vac and doctors recommend to get any time during your pregnancy.  My doctor is just one of those who does not.

This!! I told my boss at 5 weeks because not telling him could have potentially put the baby's health at risk. If you aren't able to eat when you need to, and telling your boss might change that, I would tell! Just make sure to tell your boss to keep it hush hush if you don't want everyone else at work to find out. Good luck!

When is the meeting supposed to be? Soon? I think I'd ask my doctor what she thought about traveling so far. I just got home from Chicago, but a 2 hour flight is way different than international.

I have not told yet.  I want to wait til the first of the year.

I also work for a hospital and they give us the chance to opt out of the shot if you fill out a form.  Do you have this option.

  • I ended up telling my boss at 6wks. I know she'll keep it to herself and not tell anyone. I had to tell because I am needing to eat constantly to keep the nausea at bay, and ginger ale is definitely a friend of mine. School policy is that we don't eat or drink soda in the classroom, and I can't do that when I have a day with 4 classes back to back and no time between. She was really supportive. Even told me to buy a fridge and put it in the corner of my classroom behind my desk. All she asked was what my plans were (the last teacher in my room left after having baby). I told her I wanted to have the first six wks. of next school year off but then I'd return. She was happy as a clam. So, in my situation it worked out great!
  • We m/c in September.  I was having to leave school early and during planning periods for doctors appointments, so I had to tell the principal what was going on.  I'm blessed because he was so supportive and encouraging.  He's been rooting for us since.

That said, we'll tell him after our first appointment Thursday so he knows what to expect and plan for.  As was said before, tell your boss if it helps you take care of you LO!

  • I told my immediate supervisor only because we are very close. The ladies in my department are all a pretty close knit group (like family). I have not told my manager. I think I will wait till after my first trimester or maybe just wait till she asks.

It'd be the 2nd week of Dec, I'd be 9wks (which is after my 1st appt)... it's either the UK or Boston... Boston I'm totally cool with and same with Chicago (our HQ), but the overseas just makes me anxious.... being on a plane that long and away from home when I'm feeling like such ass (nauseous, tired, etc)....  My boss is pretty cool so we'll see how he reacts to the news.... it wouldnt be the end of the world, I'm just a little less than thrilled about the timing....

  • Do to my miscarriage my boss straight up asked me if I was pregnant when I told her I had a Dr.'s appt. I was so taken by surprise I couldn't defuse the situation.

  • If I had a normal job I wouldn't have told. But since my job is pretty physical and my condition prevents me from doing my job normally..I pretty much had to spill the beans immediately.

Pregnancy brain is a very real thing though..I've been dumb as rocks all week long. And when he asked me "So..what are your long term plans?" I had NO IDEA what he meant. So I said..."I'm...keeping it...?" And he laughed his head off. "No, I mean are you going to come back to work full time, cut down to part time, or are you jumping ship entirely?"

I turned 20 shades of red I was so embarassed.

  • I just told my boss on Thursday.  I wasn't planning to, but he told me in confidence that he's leaving, so I thought the time was right to share my news in confidence too.
  • I don't necessarily like it, but besides DH and my brother, my boss is the only other person (besides you ladies, of course) who know. At times I'm the only person at the business and we often have large deliveries. I had to explain why I can't help anymore :/
