How is Evie doing? I'm questioning if John had pink eye at all now. I saw my dentist the day he went to the pedi and she has an 8 year old daughter (well I also trust her medical opinion consider she went to medical school too) that had ear infections all the them and she told me that her daughter often got mis-diagnosed with pink eye often. She would give her the ointment in her eyes and nothing seemed to get better, she would take her back to find out she had double ear infections. And they were so bad that the blood vessels in her eyes made it appear she had pink eye, they caused redness and her eyes to water, so it looked like pink eye, but wasn't. I swear the day after John's first dose of the new antibiotic (for the ear infections) his eyes were completely clear. Of course we still gave him the eye ointment just in case, but it makes me wonder.
It's so hard when they can't tell you what's wroing, isnt' it?

Ella got sent home from school for "pink eye" 2x that turned out to be ear infections. As the doctor explained - everything's so tight in there, sometimes the ear infection pushes out the eye.
Sorry, we were out of town so I didn't see this.
I told my doctor that I didn't know what Pink eye was and he explained that Conjuntivitis (aka Pink Eye) can be caused by LOTS of different things, some bacterial and some viral. It can even be caused by some severe allergic reations So pink eye is actually a symptom of an infection but not a specific diagnoses.
He said that since Evie was presenting with a head cold AND pink eye he believed that she had a viral infection. So that is how we ended up with a wait and see approach. Unfortunately DD's illness ended up taking a BIG turn for the worse about 3 days later.
So, yes they definitely CAN be related. If you noticed a pattern of pink eye and ear infections happening together then make sure you mention it to your doctor.
When I was a kid I got ear aches and a sore throat ALL the time, but I knew that unless I had them together it would normally be gone in a day or two. If I had them together it was almost always strep throat.
