I started giving ds a bottle to lay with for naps and bed time. He goes to sleep immediately after finishing it. I know eventually this will be a bad habit to break and I know what they say about bottles and teeth. ((We brush his teeth at least twice a day really well anyways. )) Someone suggested it to me and he was awful to get down and up so many times at night and this has helped tremendously.
...Anyone else?

Re: I have a confession to make...
oooho DON"T DO IT!!!!!!!!!! I only say that because I started giving DD1 a sippy of water to take to bed, and it has now become her "lovey" and she will not go to sleep w/out it! Not only that, but sometimes she wakes up wet because she lays on it (only a little water in it, but still), and she pees out of her diaper more often (now we put maybe 1/4 in of water in it). And she now started waking up at night crying because she can't find her "water" cup, or wanting more water in it. She is so attached to that thing and I seriously wish I could rewind to when I started that habit and just NOT DO IT! Ugh!
And this was a kid who never had a lovey and didn't need anything to sleep with before...
waaaa I so screwed that up.

Ahhh.. but whats worse?? Fighting a young toddler for every nap and bedtime to go to sleep or weaning an older toddler from a bottle/cup??
Weaning an older toddler who is in a full sized bed and can climb out is proving to be impossible!
Honestly, I've given up for now...and I'm just hoping that she gives it up on her own and that it doesn't cause future braces! Ha
I totally understand though.... you do what you have to do to get them to nap (and to get YOUR break)! Maybe you'll be luckier then me and breaking the habit won't be a big deal
For now, I keep telling DD that on her 3rd b-day, no more "baby cups" (that's what she calls them). We'll see if that works.... :::fingers crossed!:::

Good idea! Maybe get her some 'special big girl' cups and have a very special cupboard or spot that she puts them. So after lunch ect she gets to place them in the special spot (stick a pretty placemat or something in a cupboard so it looks special) and then she gets them back after her nap/play time? I dunno just an idea - very supernanny ish lol. At least she still naps right? Thats a good thing!
Oh believe me, I have tried it ALL. Special big-girl cups, star chart for a week of no baby cups would get her a toy she REALLY REALLY wanted (this worked for 2 days)... ::::sigh::::
We'll get there... and you're right, at least she still naps!

Oh the joys of toddlers huh? Well, it is a SIPPY full of WATER so really not harmful right? And if you are only putting 1/4 cup in then she isnt sucking for a long time. I think your doing good! (Especially with two!)
problem w/ my DD1 is that she wants the CUP now, not just the water. So she is basically sucking on the sippy cup all night. She's pretty much using it as a pacifier

PLEASE DON'T DO THIS!!! I'm a dental hygienist and it's SOOOOO bad for their teeth!! I've personally seen poor little babies with their teeth completely rotted out because of this and they had to have crowns put on ALL of their teeth- picture this: metal teeth on your child. It really doesn't matter if you brush their teeth twice a day if they sleep with a bottle (of anything other than water)- it does not change the fact that their teeth are bathing in sugar for hours at a time. If it helps to have a bottle to sleep just put water in it and you're good!! OK, rant over. *steps off of soap box*
ETA: Ok, maybe I read the OP wrong, I was imagining the baby left with a bottle of milk in bed to go to sleep. Sorry if I got it wrong. Ignore me if I did!!
