Minivan owners come in

I have 4 door sports sedan.  But recently I've been feeling like I need more space.  We currently have 1 child and plan to have 1 more in about 3 years. A few questions.  How many children do you have?  At what point/ why did you decide to get a minivan? TIA

  • I have two stepsons, 9 & 13, and DS.  We are getting a van next year.  It is more of a necessity for us at this point with 3 boys then a want.  I was fine for years driving my Mazda 6 with just 2 kids.

  • We only have one, but we travel back to visit our family (about 3 hours each way) for weekends all the time, and we've found that it's really nice to have the extra space.

  • I have 2 SD's plus DS, and both DH and my family live at least 2 hours away from us. ?We have a Nissan Murano right now, which is fine (a little tight on long trips with all of us) but we will be getting a minivan within the next year. ?We're also planning on having one more baby so we will definitely need the extra room. ?
  • Right now I have 3 kids and we have a Dodge Avenger and a Hyundai Santa Fe.  I usually drive the car and my husband has the SUV.  The car has a little more leg room and the trunk is just as big except doesn't have the obvious vertical space.  My older girls are 8 and 6.  It is a little tight but totally doable, we will get a van within a year or so.  Part of the reason I want a van is because I want to have extra seats, especially if we move back around family.  I want to be able to bring my niece with me and my girls sometimes.  We had a van for a month as a rental when we moved here from Germany.  I loved the space.  The trunk space didn't give me more than our current cars though but there was tons of leg room and stuff.
  • I have a Honda Odyssey. I only have one child. We got it when she was 2 weeks old. I had a Honda Accord 4 door and just didn't feel like we had enough room. We were going to buy a SUV (Tahoe or Suburban) but I quickly realized after riding with my MIL (She had a Suburban) that I could hardy lift the baby carrier into the carseat base. It was too high! I am not a very big girl and it was just almost too much to get it up and in the Suburban. We then decided on the minivan because it's just the right level. Plus, I just push a button on the key and the doors pop open for me. We love our minivan and plan to get a newer model in a couple years.
  • We have one DS and another on the way. We plan on having one more LO about two years after this one is born. We knew it would be really hard to fit three car seats in my toyota prius. Even two car seats would be a tight fit.

We bought a Toyota Sienna a few months ago. I love the space and the fact we can have other people ride with us!! I've always wanted to be a mini van mom so it was a easy choice for us.

  • We currently have a civic and a ford escape and baby #2 on the way. We are hoping to get a Toyota sienna for the extra space and it also is the only mini van with awd. We also have family 5 hrs away and a 50 lb dog too. We are hoping for three kids so we will live the extra space.
  • We just have DS for now, but #2 is coming Dec 28th.  We bought one this summer because my hatchback was tiny.  It had 4 doors, but DS's car seat was so big that the seat in front of it had to be pushed all the way up- very uncomfortable for a passenger.  Plus, we got a really good deal on ours, so we went for it.

  • We just purchased a mazda 5. It's a mini mini van.  It's easier on gas that a typical minivan and it's cheaper.

The passenger side doors slide open like a minivan and it has 3 rows of seats.  We'll keep the 3rd row down for more trunk/cargo space, but it's there if we ever need it.
