LeapFrog Tag Junior - Thoughts? (teachers too!)

Yeah, I'm a PW this week.  But just go with it Wink

There are going to be some great deals on the Leap Frog Tag Junior and I'm wondering if this is a worthwhile toy/tool to get, or just stick with good old fashioned read 'em yourself books. Anyone have any insight for me? TIA!

Re: LeapFrog Tag Junior - Thoughts? (teachers too!)

  • I teach first grade so I basically teach kids how to read. My son got this when he was 2. He likes it. Listening to reading helps children to develop fluency, understand the concepts of print, etc. It's a great tool. The Tag Junior encourages them to interact with the words and pictures, which is great. I always encourage my students to look at the pictures and stop and think about each page, rather than just reading the text. I would recommend it as a supplementary tool, never to replace old fashioned reading from a real book. I have found all the Leapfrog things very helpful. My son learned all his sounds in only a week from Leapfrog Letter Factory. Some of my first graders don't even know those yet!

  • It sounds kinda similar to something a lot more low tech that my sister and I LOVED as children.  We had books that had tapes (old school, right?) that went along with them that would read the book and tell you when to turn the page so you could read along.

I agree that it's not a replacement for real books but a great supplement so lil miss can feel like she's reading on her own.

I loved those things when I was a kid.  And Teddy Ruxpin was my bestie.

  • sooo I just read on another board that the Tag works with both the Tag and Tag Junior books, so its a better value just to buy the regular Tag.  So thats what I'll do... but I think I'm going to hold off awhile longer.  Thanks for your input : )
